10 English - Film Study - The Boy in the Striped Pajamas

Hi There!

Today for our English class we had just finished watching a movie a type of movie that was based on true events.

It was called 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas' I had never watched this movie before. But I have heard so many people talking about it, or how they watched/read it.

At the start of the movie, I didn't find it that interesting, as I'm not actually interested in the old sort of movies.

Halfway through I started to get interested, more often I started to see the Hitler logo (Nazi) which is bad. That's why I started to get more intrigued as time went by.

After researching more about this type of event, the movie was trying to portray the torture and hardships the Jews went through. Through the time being of Hitler's ideas, this was called a Holocaust.

I found this terrible, the little boy moved from his home town and had no choice but to leave his friends. As his dad from what I remember the general? had to move to a government area. Which was near the camp, which is where mainly the Jews worked and died.

The little boy wanted to explore so he disobeyed his parent's orders and still went out of his house. He walked through the forest and just kept walking until he reached the camp without noticing. As the boy was young he didn't know anything about how terrible the real world was, he was innocent.

He was able to meet another little boy around the same age as him, therefore they became friends. The only problem was is that there was always a fence between them which was really sad and sort of devastating. He couldn't even properly play ball with his friend.

Later on, in the movie, it started to get more intense there was more violence and yelling. The Jews were often beaten up when they made mistakes even the kids, their punishment would always be fatal. If I were a jew I would be terrified to make one mistake. It's scary knowing that you would probably die.

What was worse was that the kids who were Jews had to grow up in such a hard environment. They couldn't have the childhood they deserved. At first, I was always confused and concerned as to why the Jews hated so much or were thought to be bad.

They were just blamed for winning the war, it's just so horrifying I can't even find any words to describe how bad it was in history. With all the violence and killings, and murderous acts.
