How to make your healthy dish appealing and attractive?

We are going to make this dish healthy by filling it with proteins such as chicken, fish, beef. Vitamins and minerals from vegetables such as corn, potatoes, etc.

We will make it look more attractive, by adding colorful vegetables, maybe adding meat depending on the people who like meat as it looks more appetizing. We want to make the dough wrapping look more interesting or pretty. By using a fork on the edge creating a nice ridge or rim.

What are the pros (good) and cons (bad) of these recipes?

Pros:

  • It has a lot of nutrients and benefits such as providing energy if we were to use potatoes since it has starch in it.

  • Because of the ingredients, this can be food that lasts long, as it has complex foods in it and macronutrients.

Cons:

  • A classic way of making it is by adding meat into it so maybe some people might be vegetarians.

  • Depending on the ingredients it may not be so healthy.

Modifications - do you need to modify (change) anything? Add a healthier filling by putting vegetables together

                                                                     Evaluation

Appearance:
The appearance of the Empanadas didn't look the best they actually didn't look like Empanadas at all, this is because of 'thoughts'. I think it was because of the puff pastry, I think it wasn't compatible with our fillings. Maybe because it was too hot that's why they had sort of pelted or became really soft. While we were putting in the filling the puff pastry became very soft and stringy. The pastry became very slippery making it hard for us to create the form. As there were many holes in it so the food didn't stay in, that meant we had to compromise. So my teammate Skyler sort of made them like dumplings by squishing the pastry over. I had decided to cut two decent sized rectangles, and I put the filling on it I placed the other rectangles over. I then used a fork to close it up on the sides, it even adds style, making it look a BIT better.

Taste:
I think it actually tasted really nice, although it didn't look very pretty and neat, it tasted very nice. I liked everything about it, but I do think it should've been cooked a bit longer. But everything else tasted really good. I liked everything about it, I definitely would've added more cheese because I really like cheese, I like how there was a balance of flavor between the meat and vegetables. The carrots were sweet the meat was nice and seasoned. I have tasted things better in my home ec classes but would label this the 2nd most delicious food I have made in home ec.

Smell:
The smell was very nice, I like how the puff pastry smelt because that kind of smell is genuinely delicious, the mince also smelt very nice.

Texture:
The texture was very good, crispy on the outside sort of crunchy on the inside but it was nice and warm.

Here is a photo of what our empanada looked like:

Mortgage Loans - Business Studies

What is a mortgage?:

I mortgage is a loan that you would usually take out for buying property or land.

Positives of a mortgage:

  • The interest rates are lower than other types of borrowing.
  • Long-term mortgages can give you more time to pay.
  • No security risk.
  • A stable rate of interest.
  • Less documentary charge.
Negatives of a mortgage:
  • You pay more than what you borrowed.
  • The loan amount is larger than with a conventional, fixed-rate mortgage.
  • Debt
Why would you use this loan?:

It is a good example of good debt because it comes with low interest.
We can use it to be able to buy a house.

Mexican Chicken Wrap - Home Economics

In our home economics class, we made a 'Mexican chicken wrap'  which isn't what we usually do, because we usually make the sort of delicate meals.

Ingredients:
  • Capsicum
  • Carrot
  • Lettuce
  • Cheese
  • Chicken
  • Bread Crumbs
  • Tortilla
  • Sour cream
  • Salsa
Appearance:

I thought it looked really appetizing because it had lots of colors, and the chicken actually had a very vibrant orange color. Due to the flavor of the bread crumbs, it looked nice and spicy, I actually like spicy things. The vegetables are what gave the wrap colors, and what made it look more appetizing was the cheese and sour cream. Probably I would've considered cream cheese instead.  But it looked really delicious!

Texture:

The texture was nice, it was fine if it wasn't heated up, because the chicken made it warm, it had a nice texture it was chewy and crunchy.

Taste:

This was probably the best thing we made in our home economics this semester, I think it tasted really nice. The chicken was really good, the cheese made it a lot better, and also the sour cream and salsa. It just tasted really delicious!

Evaluation:
10/10 will eat again :)

Challenges Chart - Coraline - Film Study

What am I learning:

We are learning to effectively know and identify the problems of the film and the character. Also knowing how to make a challenges chart.

How does this work show my learning:

This shows my work by the questions I answered with lots of information and that's how it showed my learning.

What am I wondering:

Next time I watch a movie I am able to use this information again.

Here is my presentation :)

PTSD and ASPD project - Health

Hello Everyone!

Today I'm going to be talking about my health project, which is related to my assessment. We needed to research a chosen topic in the health genre, and present it in a creative way.

For me, I had chosen to research PTSD, PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it happens when you experience a very traumatic event. When that scene or moment scars your brain and is the scariest thing that has occurred to you.

Throughout my journey of researching PTSD I have learned a lot of things about it, I actually knew about somethings before-hand. But I wasn't so certain if they were true or over-exaggerated as it was the info from movies.

When I really thought about how someone suffers so much when they go through this illness is really heart-aching. They have to go through that pain and are so afraid thinking they have no one. If we are empathetic towards the people who are diagnosed or not, we can see how painful their lives are.

My tasks were to create my own questions and research about them and answer them myself. There was a color difficulty category for the questions, so some there were three colors and we needed to pick the questions out of the options. We were given a variety of questions and they were different colors. Green meant 'rookie' yellow meant 'pro' and red means 'legend' you were allowed to pick out a combo.

For 'rookie' it would be 2 green questions, 3 yellow questions, and 0 red questions.

For 'pro' it was 2 green questions, 2 yellow questions, and 1 red question.

For 'legend' it was 1 green question, 2 yellow questions, and 2 red questions.

I had decided to go with 'pro' I wanted it to be hard but not too challenging, as I was working by myself. Because you were allowed to have a buddy, I was fine with being alone, and I was able to get it done.

These were my questions:

Why is PTSD harmful?

What happens to your well being when you are affected by PTSD?

Who can/can’t be severely mentally damaged by PTSD?

How does it affect the brain when someone has PTSD?

What other issues does this link with PTSD?

If you would like to see the answers here they are, just click on the questions :)

After that, we needed to come up with strategies and how we would take action in those strategies if you had the illness.

For the presentation, we needed to be creative and make sure we use our imagination by creating it. I decided to move with my friends and do the presentation together because our topics were related. We just needed to make sure we can bring out the aspect of our topic and make them visible.

We decided on a short film, it was a really cool idea! I came up with a lot of ideas for it as I used movies as references. We had different roles in the film, as characters.

Shiela - Therapist

Skyler - Psychopath/Main character

Me - News reporter

I hope you enjoy the film here it is!

Smoothies - Home Economics

Hello Everyone!

For today's home economics session we had a rather interesting experience, and I think it really suited the day. Everyone had made smoothies but each group had a different recipe, some recipes seemed pretty interesting.

Each group needed to contain 4 members and I was sadly not with my friend, but that was okay because at least I was put into a group.

My group's recipe was 'frozen fruit yogurt', it was also my first time eating and making this dessert.

These are the recipe's and my reviews in the following:

Frozen fruit yogurt

Rating: 4/5

Texture: I thought the texture was nice, but I felt it was a bit seedy? just the kind of texture where there were a lot of seeds. So it was sort of crunchy?

Taste: It tasted pretty nice, but I think it would've been nicer if we added more different kinds of fruit. Also adding more yogurt, because it mainly tasted like berries and it was a bit sour.

Appearance: I looked pretty vibrant, because it has nice purple and pink colors due to the berries.

Banana icecream

Rating: 5/5

Texture: Smooth but chunky

Taste: It tasted very nice because the banana made it sweet, it's just the banana and ice cream tasted well together.

Appearance: It looks nice, because of the yellow color it actually looked pretty appetizing.

Heart Dissection - Science

Hello everyone!

In science, we recently did an interesting activity, we had dissected a heart, a pig's heart in particular. Before that, we had been learning about the circulatory system and the parts of the heart. I didn't actually partake in the activity I just took the photos for my group, it looked fun on the side-lines. Also, we were lucky enough to have an Atrium on our heart, because of our teacher Ms, Abernethy. She mentioned that the heart wouldn't have an atrium as the butcher's cut off the top of the heart.

What have we been learning about?

This heart dissection really sums up most of what we have been learning, because blood relates to the heart. The circulatory system relates to the blood which relates to the heart, the respiration system. Relates to the blood which relates to the circulatory system and leads to the heart. Everything connects together because they all lead to the heart, that why this heart dissection is important.

The first thing we learned about that mainly relates to the blood was the circulatory system, if you don't what the circulatory system is. It is an organ system that spreads or permits the blood to circulate in the body. This is to make sure the blood is surely able to transport the nutrients all over the body. If we don't have a circulatory system our blood wouldn't be able to transport the nutrients our body needs. This is because of gravity, our blood would just be at the bottom of our body.

We had also learned about the parts of the heart, as you probably know on a diagram you usually see red and blue veins. This is because the blue veins are carrying deoxygenated blood and the red veins are carrying oxygenated blood. On the right side of the heart is where the deoxygenated blood needs to go through. so it has less muscle this is just so it can get through to the lungs to get oxygen. Then it will come back to the heart as oxygenated blood, to be put on the left side the being pushed throughout the whole body. This is why the right side only has a little amount of muscle because the lungs are very close to the heart. On the other hand, the left side of the lungs needs more muscle because they need to push the blood throughout the whole body.

Why are we dissecting a heart?

To effectively learn and identify the different parts of the heart in real life, as it is different from just a diagram. If we saw it in the flesh we would be able to properly see and identify the different parts of the heart. Being able to analyze everything in the heart.

What are the parts of the heart? did you see them?

Most of the class did not have an atrium and veins because usually the top of the heart would be cut off along with the atrium and veins. So we were lucky to have an atrium, but not the vein, we were also able to identify. The left and right sides of the heart, by feeling for the side which has more muscle. We also saw the valve, which is a thick layer of tissue that separates the left and right sides of the heart. We noticed that the valve was pretty thick we were told that it was so oxygenated and deoxygenated blood wouldn't mix together. We were also able to see the ventricles which looked pretty stringy.

Did you enjoy the dissection? why/why not?

I actually did not take part in the dissecting activity, as I was the one filming for my group, but I was still able to enjoy it. Since I was watching close-up through my phone as I zoomed up, I thought it was really cool. This was because I was able to still see how the dissection was done, I just didn't touch it.

Here is a short clip of our hard dissection. (it is muted as there was a lot of background noises)

Time Line - Coraline - Film Study

What am I learning?

I am learning to effectively understand and recognize the plot in a movie. We also learned how to create a timeline that shows the process in the/movie.

How does my work show my learning?

It shows my learning through the time line because you can see that I have written the scenes down where it I shown in the time line. That could be used as evidence to show my learning. The time line is a piece of work the shows process through the movie. Basically long story short.

What am I wondering?

After learning how to understand or recognize the plot in a movie, I will know that next time I watch a movie. I can take more notice in these details, I would know what part of the each each of the scenes are.

Ocean Pollution Essay - Sustainability

 Ocean Pollution

If we were to go back to where there was no sort of pollution and no concern about global warming. We could compare it to the world we live in now and there is a drastic difference, and the world has changed so much. One of the biggest impacts global warming has made on the environment. Is ‘Ocean Pollution’ the warming of the earth also increasing the temperature of the ocean. The pollution on land also pollutes the ocean, the carbon dioxide still affects the ocean. Everything that happens on land, converts to the ocean. We can’t just think that ‘eh it’s fine, it’s on land nothing EXTREME’. But the main cause of ocean pollution is from the land.

The ocean is a major source of our survival. It is the habitat of sea creatures, particularly many types of fish. For us fish is our primary source of protein, we need the fish for food and protein. Humans naturally can’t survive without protein, it is essential for our body. It benefits our bones, muscles, tissues, they also participate in every process of a cell. Fish is also a source of food, especially for those people who live on islands, for example, Maldives. Going back to talking about the ocean you probably wouldn’t have known, but the ocean provides us with oxygen. Around 50 to 70 percent of the world’s oxygen is produced from the ocean. We all know that oxygen is exceedingly important and essential for human beings to survive. Not only that, it provides our water and water for the water cycle, we need all these things to survive.

One of the most substantial reasons for ocean pollution is ‘littering’ something as simple as that. Can destroy one of our BIGGEST natural resources, because we litter it goes straight to the sea. It’s what kills our marine life, soon it’ll be polluting the air we breathe in. Another reason for ocean pollution. Is ‘Oil Spill’, this is caused by shipwreck every time there is a shipwreck. Especially a large ship the oil spills, as you know oil doesn’t mix with water, it just sits on top of the water. This results in seabirds dying, sea creatures dying, not only that it also pollutes the water. Mining in the ocean for materials pollutes the water, for example when mining for copper. Copper contains pollutants that then contaminate the ocean, this can interfere with the life-cycle of many marine animals. When chemical nutrients are released into the ocean this leads to a reduction in ocean levels. This is a very serious matter which can create a negative impact on humanity. There are so many reasons for ocean pollution but they all connect because they are all caused by humans.

The reason for pollution is because of us humans, over decades us humans have been slowly destroying our own home. The place we live in, the place that keeps us alive, and the place where we create life. Since way back we haven’t thought about the consequences of our human activities. We didn’t think about what the impacts were going to happen, for us and the world. If we look at our world now there is ‘Ocean Pollution’ which we are focusing on. Animals are dying which is dreadful, as they are who we’re sharing Earth with; some animals even benefit us and the world. Some of the debris in the ocean does not decompose resulting in them using the oxygen to degrade. This will reduce our oxygen levels, but this can also pollute our air. The biggest consequence of our human activities that harm the Earth, is where we destroy Earth.

But we can solve this problem, there are many solutions to ocean pollution. We can reduce the use of plastic products, if we do this there will be a reduction in plastic in the water. We can also start to use reusable products such as reusable water bottles, shopping bags, straw, and so on. These things can even be made from plastic bottles and other plastic products. Making them more eco-friendly will most-likely create a positive impact on the ocean pollution topic. Instead of littering on the beach, we can clean it up, not only on the beach but everywhere or anywhere. That way we can slowly reduce the amount of rubbish going into the ocean. Using biodegradable products can also help the environment, basically using eco-friendly things. We can sustain a proper and clean environment so we can still save the ocean.

Yes, the ocean is being polluted and yes we can see that our world could end because of our activities. But if we start now, if we start to take action and start to think about what is happening around us. We can make a change we can make sure that we can save our world. That we can create change, spreading awareness, or just simply changing the type of products we use. If everyone does that we can sustain an environment where there’s no pollution. So instead of just talking about the future, we should take action now.

Gymnastics - P.E

For around 5 sessions counting today, we have been doing gymnastics, we were licking enough with the school provides us with many gymnastics equipment. We got the opportunity to do the beam, bars, floor, vault, and parallel bars.

A while back I used to do gymnastics, and for the sessions, some of my memory came back from that part of my life. I really only properly remembered some of my floor and bar activities but that's all.

I had made 2 achievements at this time during gymnastics, I was able to swing over the bars but backward and I was able to roll over on the beam. I am really proud of myself that I was able to achieve those things.

Healthy Eating - Rice Paper Spring Rolls and Steak Sandwich - Home Economics

For both our practical sessions last week and this week's lesson we had made a steak sandwich, and rice paper spring rolls.

Steak Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • Thin steak
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Sauce - Tomato/BBQ
  • Garlic
  • Oil
  • Cheese
  • Salt & pepper
  • Bread buns

Appearance:

The appearance of the steak sandwich looked very appetizing, because of all the colors from the lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and meat. But since we had plenty of ingredients, the sandwich's ingredients were all piled up. But it looked pretty nice, for that one mistake, I think I would rate it an 8/10.

Taste & Texture:

It tasted very flavourful, the meat was nice and juicy but it was very chewy, I think the sauce made it taste better. I think I should've added more cheese, because when I did taste some of the cheese. It seemed to taste a lot better FOR ME, so if I added more cheese I think I would've liked it better. 10/10

Evaluation:

My total evaluation for the meal would be a 10/10 because I didn't mind the appearance because it tasted rather delicious.

Rice Paper Spring Rolls

Ingredients:

  • Rice paper
  • Lettuce
  • Bean sprouts
  • Carrots
  • Cucumber
  • Cellophane noodles
  • Sweet chili - (optional for dipping sauce)
Appearance:

Honestly, it didn't look very appetizing because the rice paper was clear and it was just filled with vegetables. In my opinion, I would have added meat to make it look more appetizing because some people don't like vegetables. I folded mine a different way from the instructions, that's why it looked a bit better. Because I fold my spring rolls a different way, we even displayed the spring rolls nicely. (thinking it was going to be delicious)

Taste & Texture:

It didn't taste very good for me, it was cold, it had not meat it was just stuffed with vegetables. The whole thing was raw, even the rice paper was raw. The texture was very weird the noodles were sort of only halfway cooked so they were hard to chew and hard. So I would rate this a 5/10

Evaluation:

My total evaluation for this dish would be a 5/10 it was tolerable, I wouldn't say it was bad because I was able to eat it. But I don't think I would be making this dish again, maybe it would've been better if there was meat in it. Or if we were allowed for it to be cooked, maybe more flavor? I just think if I didn't follow those instructions and did it my way, it would've been better. But of course, food is food so I can't say I don't like it, it's just that it could be improved.

Question for today:

Do you like spring rolls?

Budgeting Guide - Business Studies

Hello everyone!

For my business class, we based around the world of budgeting. For this week our task was to create a creative presentation. A presentation that explains budgeting and tips on how we can budget. This would be called a 'budgeting guide', but this was out of two options, the other is the same thing but doing it as a screencastify. If you don't know what a screencastify is, it is where you can record yourself or your screen. Then you can use it that way to present your work, I had chosen the budgeting guide. As I am insecure in front of cameras, and then sharing it.

Here is my presentation :)

I had chosen a warm and pastel pallet this is to give a nice or warm vibe as the aesthetic, I think my presentation came out really nicely. It didn't turn out how I wanted it to, instead, it came out looking better. 'Canva' is probably my favorite website so far for presenting my work, it gives me lots of ideas. I had added useful information about budgeting and what it is, I think people will be able to have an idea about it.

Question for this weeks business class:

Do you budget? if so what made you do it?

Paragraph Writing - Coraline - Colours and Lighting - Film Study

What am I learning?

I am learning to thoroughly understand the details of colours and lighting in the movie Coraline.

How does my work show my learning?

My paragraph shows my learning because I had made sure that I made it clear of what I was answering. I also put them in separate paragraph's, the paragraph is important in English.

What am I wondering?

After this work, I feel that I properly understand the details of the colours and lightings in the movie Coraline.

In the movie Coraline, probably the main aspect of the themes and scenes are the colors and lighting. They were used to really contrast the difference between the two worlds, and they definitely change towards the end.

When the audience first sees the real world, we can see that there are very dull, boring, and gloomy colors. Nothing stands out and it just kind of gives you a vibe that the movie might not be interesting. If we're to be in there I wouldn't be in a mood to do anything because of the dull natural colors. Where they move, the place is called 'Pink Palace' you can see a slight color of pink, but it doesn't feel like 'pink'. I could only explain that the vibe is very lifeless and sort of feels dry. The colours that were used in the setting was grey, white, and very dull colours, but there was one thing that seemed vibrant. Which was Coraline if you compare her colours to everything else she is bright and vibrant. I think this is because she is the main character I think the director did this to put all attention on Coraline. You can also see that Coraline seems more lively than the other characters, in the real world.

When Coraline first goes into the 'other world' it seems very welcoming and warm, all the colours displayed in the setting are warm colours. I wouldn't say vibrant but they have nice warm colours, it gives you the feeling where you are comfortable or safe. But the thing that turns the table is the button eyes. Although everyone is nice we still feel a bit cautious because of that one aspect. In the kitchen or the whole house, it definitely seems very different everything is very warm. The colours used were colours like orange, peach, pink all those types of colours, the lighting in this world gives you a pleasant feeling. Making you want to rather stay in the 'other world' because of this vibe and mood. Since we have watched the wh0le movie this was so Coraline could keep coming back or persuade her that the 'other world' was better.

When Coraline was offered her button eyes she obviously refused, but from that moment thing started to change. By things I mean the colours and lighting, everything started to look darker and the colour wasn't natural anymore, they seemed artificial. The colours were still warm but it started to sketchy. Kind of an uneasy feeling, when Coraline's 'other father' showed her the garden everything was so bright. It was so bright that was kind of hurting the eyes, everything definitely seemed artificial. The colours were very vivid and kind neon it gives off the vibe that we are safe. Or it's comfortable it just doesn't seem right anymore like something is going to go wrong. The colours used were neon oranges and pinks, and yellows, literally like the colours from the rainbow but enhanced brightness. This is where the audience is amazed but is starting to put their guard up.

The ending where everything is over and the 'other mother' has been defeated things started to go back to normal. Not normal but everyone was happier all helping each other gardening creating colour. This time all the colours were natural everything was evenly distributed, colour wise. There was natural lighting from the daylight the sun was up, there were tulips which added colour to the garden. Even at the very end, they showed a scene where the whole house was shown and the background. This definitely gave a vibe where we are happy, relieved, and safe with family. I don't need to say what colours were used because everything was natural, I think this was shown to show the resolution.

As you can see the colour and lighting phases throughout the movie were very unusual and exaggerated. But it was very interesting for the audience because of what had happened in the movie.

What makes a good leader - Year 9 Leadership

 Hi everyone!

Usually, on Wednesdays, we would be doing our passions but starting from last Wednesday it was different for the year 9s. We needed to start talking about 'leadership' because we throughout the next year of our school years. We are going to be considered as leaders, we will be role models. New leaders to the school the same as everyone else older than us, we are just next in line.

In our task that we started last week, we were sent a slide where we needed to do two activities. Which were writing down the qualities of a good leader, and we needed to make a video of ourselves. Where we explain what makes a good leader, and add examples of good leaders.

Here were my ideas of what made a good leader:

  • Reliable

  • Empathetic

  • Able to listen and share

  • Is able to prioritize

  • Inclusive

  • Integrity & Honesty

  • Brave

  • A positive attitude

  • Able to stand out

  • Able to make smart choices

I have added plenty of ideas of what I thought made a good leader, I think these qualities really make a good leader.

If we start talking about leaders, we know that there are many inspirational and amazing leaders in the world. Which has done amazing things for their people as an example I'm pretty sure everyone knows 'Oprah Winfrey'. If you don't know her she is a businesswoman, American TV host, actress, and author. She has made herself successful and has achieved great things, she did this all on her own, she is shown as an independent woman. Also a leader for all women showing how much of a good leader she is. He attributes may define what a good leader is, and the contributions she makes for the community.

Another example is Barack Obama, he was the 44th president of the United States of America and served the country for 8 years. Those years have been considered as wonderful years as Barack Obama was such a good leader. He made an amazing role model and lead the country with pride. He was considerate, honest, and inspiring, after all, he went through as a kid he made himself known as a wonderful man.

If we look at those two leaders we can see that we can become great leaders, if we know how to act and have confidence in ourselves. If we know and we believe in ourselves that we can be leaders. We may also be world-known leaders that inspire others. But for now, we will be leaders of Hornby High School.
