Drama - Chorus work

On Tuesday the 23rd of July period 3 and 4 we had drama class within those periods we were learning about slam poetry. We had to be in a group of 3 or in pairs, In my group was Skyler, Shiela, and I, we started slam poetry in period 4. So Shiela had to leave for her ESOL, Shiela left and I and Skyler started to carry on with making the poem. A slam poem is basically like a poem with a new generation it's like you can rap the poem make it elegant and add trending things these days. When doing a slam poem it's mostly based on kids between 9 and 18 years of age, Most kids do slam poetry to express themselves or want there voices to be heard by others.

For our poem, we based it on our favorite band BTS also known as Bangtan Sonyeondan they are a Kpop band that is famous not only in Korea but worldwide. Since we are in ARMY which stands for Adorable Representatives for MC Youth which is BTS's fandom. We wanted to just let everyone know how dedicated we are to BTS, They taught us how to love ourselves and realize how important we are. Their songs are inspiring hey are just amazing that's why we love BTS. Other people in the class decided o do it about what they like or what to think of yourself's even Racism and political services.

Before we did the poem we did some warm-ups the warm-up was called the donut, we just needed to make a big circle and a smaller circle on the inside which created a donut. You needed to buddy up and share what you enjoyed in the holidays then we had to make a story but you needed to say one word and the other person says a word.

Here is our poem:

Bangtan Sonyeondan

Strivers, Inspiring, Passionate, Remarkable
Idols that helped their fans to develop high self-esteem, to love themselves, to keep on moving forward even if things get hard, to smile.
For their fans to appreciate themselves, family, friends, fans, and each other.
Pain, Loved and Fulfilled
Doubting themselves, Not being good enough, Families not supporting their dream
Artist of the Year, Billboard Singers, The next  Beatles, The First Korean Boy Band who performed in Wembley Stadium, earned a Big Fandom
They want to keep on making music that will inspire people, that will be the cure for people’s misery, that will teach their fans to love themselves
Seoul, South Korea
Kim Namjoon, Kim Seokjin, Min Yoongi, Jung Hoseok, Park Jimin, Kim Taehyung, Jeon Jungkook BTS!

And here is a video of us performing our poems Skyler is the one with bangs and I'm the one beside her -

RECYCLING♻

Aim: To learn practical ways of recycling so that we can make our world a better place.

How can we prevent climate change by recycling these products?

Plastics: If you don't reuse plastic it would be bad since plastic does not biodegrade. Then it would be left in the landfill which will cause methane and once methane is released into the air it causes more air pollution.

Cycling or walking: If you walk and or ride a bike you lessen driving a car since cars can cause Carbon Dioxide.

Paper: If we reuse paper it will lessen the need for cutting down more trees.

Steel: If you don't reuse steel it will be the normally be labeled as garbage and will be buried under a landfill. Or we will burn them and once we burn it cause more pollution on land and air.

Video questions:

What is Zero Waste?
Zero waste is one of the quickest and affordable ways a community immediately reduces the impact on climate change.
What can we do on the planet?

  1.  Repair broken objects or machines
  2.  Reduce
  3.  Reuse
  4.  Recycle
What do we need to recycle?
Put biodegradable materials into the green waste bin so we can help stabilize the soil. Also Plastic, steel, and paper.
What does recycling do?
We can shut down 20% of coal factories which can be done immediately and it can prevent pollution.
How much of our rubbish is food scraps?
90,000
What does soil do to carbon dioxide in the atmosphere?
Soil can decrease carbon dioxide but also since soil can help grow plants it is also good since plants eat carbon dioxide since that is the source to create there leaves and stems.

What do we need to do?
  1. Make Changes
  2. Have Zero __waste_________

What is a carbon footprint?

How can you make your Carbon Footprint smaller?

Carbon footprint goals:
1. Walk to school and less driving to school
2. Take faster showers
3.during the day use the sunlight and not use the electricity

ENERGY SAVING TIPS FILM

Name 4 of the tips.

  1. Turn off the lights if you are not in the house/room or when you're leaving.
  2. Turn off the microwave it is best to only turn when going to use.
  3. Walk or ride a bike instead of using a car or public transportation.
  4. Take faster showers and instead of taking a bath to take a shower.

AT WHAT RATES DO DIFFERENT ITEMS DECOMPOSE?

MY INVESTIGATION.

Image result for rates of decomposition

Choose 5 items from the list and investigate them.
1. If you recycle your ordinary paper it can create cardboard, newspaper, paper towels, napkins and so on. Paper can create things that e use every day that we most need. If we don't recycle paper what will we have to write on or if we don't have paper how can we read the newspaper in the mornings?

2. Glass bottles-
A glass bottle can create containers, Highway marking beads, and one of the cool things it can make is sandglass which purifies water. Glass bottle can also keep water purified and fresh.

3. Orange peel-
Orange peels are soon to be known as a biofuel, A story has been told of a company dumping 12,000 tons of orange peel into a national. a year later their project had to be shut down because of a lawsuit. 15 years later they went back to view potential sites for studies, and when the had visited an old forest had come back to life because of the orange peels. You can also use it to create a sponge or use it as a wood polish.

4. leaves-
Leaves can create rooftops for houses, clothes, hats you can name it they can also be a source of fertilization.

5.Milk Carton-
Sayin a website it says in NZ there is no company that recycle milk cartons instead they go to landfill.

  1. How long do they take to decompose? -
Paper - 2-4 weeks
Glass Bottles - 500 years/Forever?
Orange Peel - 3-6 months
Leaves - 1-3 months
Milk Carton - 5 years
     2. What resource/fossil fuel are they made from? -
Paper - Pulp Cotton from the wood in tree's
Glass Bottles - Glass is made from sand, soda, ash, and limestone they use natural gas and heat furnaces which uses coal to create the bottle shape.
Orange peel - Orange seeds
Leaves - They are made from carbon dioxide
Milk Carton - They are made from wood pulp but mixed with hardwood and softwood,

      3. How is this resource recycled?
Paper - Paper when recycled is taken to a machine where it will separate the kinds and grades of paper once done it will wash any extra writing or inks off with soapy water. When done it creates a slurry which then creates different kinds of paper materials like cardboard, newspaper, etc.

Glass Bottles - When you throw glass bottles into the yellow bin it will be taken into a machine which then separates and discolors all the bottles. Once done it will be crushed and melted down to be reused for created new glass products like a glass bottle can be turned into a glass jug.

Orange Peel - With orange peels, you can add to your compost heap to create soil or you create different kinds of things like Limoncino or Arancino.

Leaves - AN idea is once you start mowing the lawn you can add the leaves that have fallen off trees onto your lawn and mow them up so your lawn can shred them up to pieces the size of grass clippings. Which will cause the leaves to decompose faster.

Milk Carton - You should place the cartons into bins with Glass containers, Steel, etc. Most people would think it needs to go in the bin with paper and things well It's not right. Because yes although the outside of a milk carton is paper/card paper in the inside it is aluminum.

       4. How does this object contribute to climate change?

Paper - Because of us always needing paper more ree's need to be cut and because ree's eat carbon dioxide once the trees are cut down. It will release its carbon dioxide contains in the air which will cause air pollution.

Glass Bottles - When glass bottles are created it needs heat to create its form which means it needs fossil fuels which is coal to heat up a furnace and the carbon dioxide released can't stay inside. So we let carbon go outside into the air which will cause air pollution and also air temperature increase.

Orange peels - There is nothing of orange peels that contribute to climate change.

Leaves - Mostly leaves are the things that are helping to decrease climate change and not contributing but ways leaves can help is because they feed off carbon dioxide and release oxygen.

Milk Carton - This is not based on milk cartons but since milk is related to milk cartons it is because dairy cows produce manure which releases greenhouse gas into the atmosphere.

Night Vision book review.

In the last semester which is Term 2 my group and I have been doing a novel study on a specific book which is "Night Vision". A novel study is where you do activities that are based on a book you have to study the book and make sure you read it properly, so it would be easier to answer. Last terms reading was interesting I was not expecting to do a study on a novel since I have never done anything like it. I loved the book and thought it was really interesting to study, what pulled me into the book was the title of the book and it had explained more in the short blurb at the back of the book. After reading the blurb it had interested me more, Ella West must have really put lots of effort into getting people interested in her books. The cover, blurb, title they were all well thought out and it really was a good match for the story of the book.

In my opinion, the book was an enjoyable book to read at the start I already started to put my mindset into the book and imagined that I was really in the scene of the book. At the start, my emotions were all over the place I was shocked, thrilled and excited. Who wouldn't after a kid just witnessed a crime of theft and murder. At the back of the book, there was a question I couldn't really remember it but it was saying "Will she take it and run?" when reached to the point in the middle or towards the end it started to make sense.

Rating this book I would rate it 8/10 the reason I have chosen this score is that it was a really interesting book in the story I don't think that there was any part that I was interested in I loved it. I would have given it a full score but I would love the ending to be a bit longer I feel like it was a bit rushed in the end. When I finished reading the book I had so many questions in my head for example, "Is that it?" or "I want to know more". It just would have been a bit better if the ending made more sense and was not so rushed.

IF Ella made a second part I would that would be amazing and would want to read it, if I was Ella West and was making a new book for the second part of Night Vision. I would be more of like a diary of when she is an adult now and she is thinking the day back to when this situation had happened. Or if they or she became a doctor and found a cure to her disease she would finally be able to meet the sun again. But of course, I am not the author it is just some ideas that were floating around in my head.

To know a bit more about what I have been working on some of my activities:

Before Reading:

What Impression do you get from the front cover? What can you infer about the book? -
When I first got the novel we were told not to look on the backside and only the front cover of the book. We were also told what the front cover looked like in my head my answer was it looks like she was running away or to something. The font was a bit scary but only a bit and it made me think it was a scary kind of novel, The lighting on the front cover represents the night vision effect which was the title. There were short slogans on the front cover one of them said “Would you take the money and run?” that made me think she robbed someone and was running away since there was a photo of a girl running. But the slogan was a question probably meanings he is stuck in a situation where she has to decide a choice, probably whether she takes the money and runs or stay and wait there were a lot of ideas in my head of the other choice could be.

Read the blurb on the back. Does this interest you? why/why not? -
I read the blurb on the back of the book in my head I started at the top and there was a short sentence in big bold letters and that really caught my attention. It was saying “Viola was born with a genetic condition that makes sunlight deadly.” It really caught my attention because I like read watch or listen to documentaries about rare or supernatural sicknesses because it is really interesting to me and some of them are like superpowers. When I read the rest of the blurb I got interested it seems like she often uses night-vision goggles, there were bits causing suspense saying something about her seeing something that could get not only her but her whole family living in the farm trouble. Now she is deciding whether or not she can do some big help to save her family and far, It mentioned if it was okay for her to steal from a thief. It also had many questions I think those questions were questions that were birds flying around in her head and she needs to shoot the right bird. But also the sentence about Viola being born with a genetic condition that makes the sunlight deadly is forgotten but I am waiting if more is mentioned in the story.

There is more but it is way too much so here is a link to it -

Hurumanu - Water Cycle no. 2

AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.

Definition:

A green box with icons and white text. Text reads: Where is Earth's Water? 96.5 percent is in the oceans; 1.7 percent is in lakes, rivers, streams, and soil; 1.7 percent is in polar ice caps, glaciers, and permanent snow; 0.001 percent is in water vapor in Earth's atmosphere

Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapor.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapor cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

We will be conducting an experiment that looks at the different ways that climate change is affecting the water cycle.
Two Images:An illustration of the water cycle showing how water travels from rivers and streams to clouds to snow and back again

Findings:

Material:

  1.  2 Plastic bag (ziplock)
  2.  Vivid pen
  3.  A cup of water and half a cup of soda water.
  4.  Food coloring
  5. Litmus paper (only for the one with soda water)

Steps:

  1.  Grab a plastic bag (ziplock) it should be partly large.
  2.  Grab a pen and start to draw the clouds, water, trees, and words.
  3.  Pour a cup of water into the bag not too much.
  4.  add at least two drops of food coloring the color of your choice but ideally blue
  5.  Stick the bag on a window where the sun comes through regularly.

The Water Cycle: Bag 1
CO2 Water Cycle: Bag 2
Acid
Desert Water Cycle
Bag 3
Does it cycle?
Yes, it doesYesYes
Amount of Water
222
Acidity
121

Key: Water and acidity amount: 1 = none

2 = small drips
3 = large drips

Other comments:

Bag 1

  • The water cycle bag 1 did not contain any form of acidity.
  • In bag 1 there were effects that showed the process of the water cycle.
  • In bag 1 it had created small drops of water.
Bag 2

  •  The CO2 water cycle bag contains small drips of acidity
  •  The special paper in the bag had not turned blue since the water cycle was very slow.

  •  Although the process of the water cycle was very slow it still worked
Bag 3
  • For the desert water cycle bag, the water cycle we were trying to create was successful because of showing effects in the bag.
  • The bag contained small drops of water
  • It had not created any form of acidity in the bag.

Conclusion:

We created 3 kinds of bags that would all be related two the water cycle we made one with just water, the second with soda water, and the third with sand and a tiny bit of water. All bags contained small droplets of water but bags 1 and 2 did not contain any acidity apart from bag 2 since it had contained soda. As we were expecting well hoping all the bags water cycles had turned out successfully after showing signs of the process in the water cycle. We saw the bag fogging up which is condensation. Overall we were a bit disappointed since the paper did not turn blue but that's okay.

It says oceans for the first hexagon, We did oceans for the hexagon since that where everything starts. The ocean connects to flooding since the ocean can cause flooding from natural disasters, the sun evaporates water from the ocean. When the sun evaporates water it creates clouds called Condensation also there will water vapor (for example moist or fog on the window). There will also be Carbon dioxide since it can cause acid rain after there will be precipitation in simple words it is also known as rain when it rains it causes freshwater also when it rains it will also cause storms, and hurricanes, and that is the water cycle in my opinion.

Draw a labeled diagram of the Water Cycle

Water cycle words:
  1. Precipitation
  2. Hurricanes
  3. Storms
  4. Evaporation
  5. Carbon Dioxide
  6. Water
  7. Oceans
  8. Water vapor
  9. Freshwater
  10. Flooding
SOLO Hexagons Activity

Water cycle words:

  1. Precipitation - Precipitation is when it rains after clouds are saturated and cannot obtain more liquid.
  2. Hurricanes - It is a storm with strong wind, rain, and hail most likely to be found in the tropical Caribbean.
  3. Storms - It is a weather that causes strong and violent wind and rain and sometimes lightning.
  4. Evaporation - Evaporation is when the sun's heat also known as radiation evaporates liquid into the sky.
  5. Carbon Dioxide - Carbon dioxide is a gas that is produced from burning fossil fuels like coal, and oil.
  6. Water - is a liquid substance that forms the ocean, lakes and also the source we use to drink from.
  7. Oceans - The ocean is part of the sea and also the habitat of marine life.
  8. Water vapor - Is the gas of water for example clouds, fog or when you heat up water and there is steam.
  9. Freshwater - Freshwater is the kind of water that is from the sea.
  10. Flooding - Flooding is where there is an overflow of water and can also be a matter of natural disaster that can be caused by underwater volcanoes or earthquakes that can cause large waves.

  1. Write about the following Climate Change concepts:
You can do these by powerpoint, embedding a movie, on your blog, on a doc or any other form of presentation. It is up to you.

  1. Precipitation - When it rains it can help the plants but it can also cause floods.
  2. Hurricanes - The amount of rainfall had been increased by climate change, it also destroys houses and can sometimes cause flooding.
  3. Storms - Since Climate change has changed the weather a lot it also caused many more storms.
  4. Evaporation - When the water evaporates it will come back as snow and rain but because of the climate it has increased the air temperature which causes more evaporation.
  5. Carbon Dioxide - Carbon dioxide is the main reason for climate change since it causes acid rain and pollution in the air.
  6. Water - Climate change has increased the temperature of the water which travels to cold places like Antarctica and melts the glaciers faster than how it used to be.
  7. Oceans - because of us humans littering, carbon dioxide, and greenhouse gases which cause the ocean to help the earth's climate.
  8. Water vapor - The water vapor is like greenhouse gases and once it is released into the air it increases the water temperature and is also warming carbon dioxide.
  9. Freshwater - involving climate the freshwater has changed over the decades because of climate change because it has caused acid rain, Climate change has also decreased the quality of our water and saltwater has also started to intrude into our water supplies.
  10. Flooding - Because of climate change and weather changes because of storm and hurricanes, it has caused many floods.

ACIDIFICATION: HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACIDIFICATION OF OUR OCEANS?

Definition:
It is where someone or something creates acid or making something become acidic.

The effects of climate change:
When humans burn more and more fossil fuel it creates carbon dioxide which is an acid and when it releases into the air, it makes the air hotter and the ocean hotter and hotter. but it is not only humans creating carbon dioxide there is also sea acid.

DEFORESTATION AND CLIMATE CHANGE

DEFORESTATION: HOW DOES DEFORESTATION AFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE?

Deforestation Definition:
Deforestation is where someone, or a machine or any kind of action that clears an area of trees, for example, cutting down trees.

The effects it can do to climate change:
Trees absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, when we cut down trees or burn them down the tree releases it's containing carbon dioxide. Since carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas. It starts to float around in the atmosphere and will create a cover or for example, acts as a greenhouse. normally if our atmosphere was not affected by carbon dioxide it would prevent the strong heat rays from entering, and the light will bounce back up into space. But now that carbon dioxide created holes in our atmosphere which allows the strong heat rays to enter and because the carbon dioxide has created a glass house kind of atmosphere it allows the sunray to bounce on earth and go up and down normally it would go back up to space.

ICECAP MELT: HOW DOES ICECAP MELT AFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE?

Definition:
It is where icecap melts because of climate change which causes the water to get warmer and when the sea level rises it is much easier for it to melt.

How it affects climate change:
Because icecaps are a dark color it absorbs more sunlight and also releases it in the air which helps climate change and that heat warms the air and melts the icecaps. Once the ice caps are melted there will cause a sea-level rise and more evaporation which will be faster.

WATER VAPOUR: HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO WATER VAPOUR AND EVAPORATION?

Definition:
Water vapor is a gas it is caused by evaporation or boiling water but that is aqueous vapor water vapor is invisible.

How does it affect climate change:
When we dump greenhouse gas into the air, of course, you know it makes the air humid and warmer but because of water vapor which is a greenhouse gas itself helps the carbon dioxide which makes it worse.
