The Schools in Japan

In Japan when it is your first year of Elementery school it will be the year you will be turning six you will have toning April. Elementary and Middle school is compulsory but most students in Japan go up to High School back then students Ghan to go to school 6 days a week and there were even after school studying classes to go to. You would have to go to school 6 and a half hours a dream ay but now Sunday and Saturdays are free meaning you don't have to go to school on Saturday. In your first year of Elementary school you will notice that there are usually about 30 to 40 students in one class, over the 6 years of going to Elementrary schools the subjects you will learn. Are Japanese, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Music, Crafts, Physical Education, Home Economics (To learn cooking and cleaning). But now more Elementary schools are starting to teach English too and also learning about technology and more schools are enhancing school education with technology.

In Japan Elementary schools will normally be separated into small groups for learning how to do group activities. It's actually funny because one of the activities they would that would probably help the teachers a lot is cleaning the yard or picking up rubbish and etc. In Japan you don't have to bring lunch or anything because the school will prepare it for you or a local store how kind is that, most schools normally don't need you to pay. The food they are given is very nutritious and healthy to eat so it is not what you want to eat, there are many school events like sports day and some things that New Zealand also celebrates. Most schools ahead to wear uniform but their uniform is very nice and cute but I am not saying that our schools uniform is not nice. And there are a lot of clubs to join in Japan schools.

Passion project blogpost

I finally finished three stone sculptures! I am super proud that I have finishe three sculptures in 5 or 6 weeks when this was my first time doing it. Today I am making a blogpost about my ratings throughout the stone carving sessions. In those sessions I have accomplished some goals that I have set, Well I could'nt really say set myself because Mr Mitchell showed us how to do everything. No you must be wondering what were those goals that I have accomplished, if you don't care about it I will still share them with you. One of them is knowing how to curve the edges It was fun but I was so confused at the start until Mr Mitchell and Mr Palmer showed us how to do it. I was asking myself so many questions like how can this block of stone into a Koru I was not sure with the teachers instructions but I just trusted the ta hers and he process. I also learnt what the names of different tools are like a cheese grater, Chisel, rasp, mallet and much more.

My favourite part throughout all the stone carving session were obviously the hands on things like carving the stone itself or learning new thing about stone carving. but I actually liked it equally with researching it was easy since we only had to research about basic things. Also one researching session we got to use paint and create things also using modelling clay and fabric. The first time we did researching we just had to do some drawings or find some more maori designs.

The things that were challenging were trying to understand that process and staying positive if I broke my stone.

If I needed to improve I would rather learn more about carving and before Inwould do it again so I have more experience.

My final comments for this time of passion project is that I was amazing and so fun I would define try try it again and I recommend you try it to.

Cyber smart Reflection ^-^

This year was only my second or third year of doing Cyber Smart, I wasn't here part of term one but I do have some memories of part of it. In Term 1, we focused on being a smart learner during those days I have learnt not to share personal information and private information. Like sharing your home address and passwords for specific things. I also learnt how to make unique passwords so you won't get hacked and the important people you should know your passwords like parents YOU and a caregiver you trust. We also did a digital dig if you don't know what it is it's like an activity where you have to discover shortcut in your computer or Chromebook. One of the lessons in Term 1 is catfish its about who is the photo if you post something make sure you ask permission or you know who the photo is from.

In Term 2, We focused on Smart footprint, I learnt how easy it is to find someone's information with social media the network and other things based on devices with their smart footprint.

In Term 3, we learnt about Smart relationships, like who are you friends with on the internet who do you talk to. Also to be positive and use your words wisely.

In Term 4, We focused on being a smart User I learnt about how Google can find the documents of what you are searching for and if you are using the right words for searching. Also on this topic, we got to join the Summer Learning Journey.

My favourite thing in Cybersmarts this year was learning about the new things and learning about scratch and about private information.

Something I didn't enjoy was nothing actually everything was really fun.

Something Miss Morgan did well was teaching us and finding different and unique ways to teach us, she showed us new things and got us to learn more.

Something she should do better nothing she was absolutely great in teaching us sometimes she wasn't here so our form teachers took over and it was like they were Miss Morgan.

Science Roadshow 2018 T4

Wednesday 28th of November which is today had an amazing event to experience it was the Science Roadshow the event was only pulled for the year 7's at HHS. We had a payment of eight dollars but we were lucky enough that the school provided 6 dollars so we only had to pay 2 dollars. This event was held in the learning street where all the science classes were, 7TZ and 7AL were first up to experience the show and the 70 experiments. The MASSIVE guy Shane and Samantha showed and hosted the show for us, The amazing thing was is that I got to have a photo with Megan Woods and she PUT HER ARM AROUND ME. It was amazing to have a photo with the parliament of Wigram, the first experiment was involving a ball fitting through a hoop at first with normal temperature the ball fell right through so it fitted. Then we tried dipping the hoop into liquid Nitrogen Shontell was picked out to help since she volunteered by putting her hand up really fast for safety she had to use safety glasses and some thick gloves. When Shane dipped the hoop into the Liquid Nitrogen a lot of smoke came out so he demonstrated how cold it was by gently blowing on the smoke, he told us the reason why we should use gloves it was because of it to cold that our hands would stick to the hoop. The second time Shontelle tried sliding the ball through the hoop it didn't go through it confused everyone he told us it was because all the molecules came together making the hoop smaller. and when it gets warm the molecules spread out making it bigger after that experiment. Shane went up with Samantha and showed us a sheet of galvanising steel and burned a hole through it with blow torch it was really cool, my favourite experiment was mostly all of them and I did them all with Skyler.

Passion Passion Update

Image result for hei matau

26.11.16

Today's session in passion projects we were still working on our hei matau like sculptures, It was really fun my sculpture broke since one side was really thin it all happened when I was trying to get it to the right shape with a chisel and it suddenly broke without my notice. I was with Skyler and Megan also Mika I was scared to tell them I thought they were gonna overreact and say my name, but Megan saw it first and she did not care and she told everyone else and I was relieved cause they did not care either. So I told the teacher, Mr. Mitchel, and he checked it up for me he wasn't able to do anything to it yet since he was busy drilling holes in everyone else's normal sculpture my one looked like an uneven teardrop. The now here I am researching and blog posting about my on hand on period.

SLJ: About Me

Hey, Emma

I'm Rieya N, I am year 7, and 11 turning 12 years old. I like to play with my dog Chase and spend time with my 3 sisters I am the oldest out of all, I like to play basketball and volleyball. My ethnicity is mixed I am Fiji/Indian, Filipino, and Kiwi so for me it is really hard when I get asked where I come from. I like to hang out with my friends also going to school, my friends are Skyler, Megan, and more.

I want to join the Summer Learning Journey because I want to win a prize not only that it is so easy to win all I have to do is regular school day work which I love. It is super simple since it is a blogging programme and I can do fun kinds of blogging, once I learnt about the summer slide I really don't want to go down I want to keep my grades up and not let them drop.

If I ever won the Summer Learning Journey I would like to win a drone or a Bluetooth Speaker, Mostly the drone if it has a camera since I travel and camp a lot. I love music that's why I would also want a Bluetooth speaker but again most probably a drone with a camera.

Skyler is the one that has her hair out

Ph red cabbage: Science

Purple Cabbage Experiment

Method:

1 Peel off three or four big cabbage leaves and put them in a blender filled half full with water. Blend the mixture on high until you have purple cabbage juice.

2 Pour the purplish cabbage liquid through a strainer to filter out all of the big chunks of cabbage. Save the liquid for the experiments to follow.

3 Set out three beakers, side by side. Fill each glass three-quarters full with cabbage juice.

4 Add a little vinegar to the first beaker of cabbage juice. Stir with stirring rod and watch the colour change.

5 In the second beaker, add a little laundry detergent and stir.

6 Take a photo of your 3 beakers side by side.

That was our instructions and also like a quiz for the only twist was is that we had to experiment to get the right answer. I have a few photos from throughout our experiment. It was a success and my answers were right, I was in a group with my friends Megan and Skyler. and I was the one that ended up cleaning the mess.

After watching someone else do their experiment we ended up waiting a long time because they kept needing to blend it because they just shoved their red cabbage in the bottle. So I thought it would be a good idea if we broke up the cabbage first the idea was ok we ended blending the things faster but we needed to keep adding water. It had to be really fine and smooth we finally got to that point and experimented we set out 3 beakers and filled them up a quarter way up. one glass we added a little bit of vinegar and it turned a pinkish redish colour and another glass we added washing powder then it turned a greenish blueish colour. then we compared them all to each other.

For the vinegar my answer was right but for the washing powder I got it half right.

Stone Sculpturing Art Blog#2

Today in our passion project we finally finished our small model of our Koru and at the moment we thought we were done and going to move onto our larger project. We had to create something related to "Hei Matau" I wasn't very successful in the shape. It turned out with one side being really long and thin and the other side being thick and short, I wasn't really proud of it "yet" but I kept working with it. The was our on-hand things then we were up to research not so fun stuff but also it was fun since most of was drawing and figuring out what we would want on our big sculpture. I had also finished my design on the piece of paper I finished writing how I wanted it to be and what the meanings of it are I found something on the web. But modifying it with different kinds of things depending on the size of the block we are provided with, The things were adding a Koru onto it and the Manaia. A koru is part of New Zealand's native plant the Fern, and the Manaia is a Maori known mythical creature. Please comment if you know anything about carving stones or if there is more I could add :)

SLJ: Japan!

Today in cyber smarts we were practising for our summer learning journey in the holidays we had a choice between 10 countries my choice was Japan. Our task is to use our Google skills to research the selected country.

The first thing we have to research the capital city of the country we have picked I have a small quiz throughout the blog post. I get a question and you do to all you have to do is answer in the comments. The first question is what is the capital city of a country means.

The capital of Japan is Tokyo if I would travel there I have to check it out.
The population of Japan is 127,185,332 in 2018 but last year was 127,484,450 meaning the population has decreased. My second question for you is how many holidays are there in Japan.

If you are going to travel to Japan in January make sure to grab your coat and scarf because it is winter and there will be snow. It is probably a not so good time to go but I recommend going in late time spring so you can see the beautiful blossom trees. Next question for you is what is your favourite season in the year.

If you are wondering where is the capital city of Japan it is located in the southern region of Japan. The next question for you is What country would you travel to.

If you were ever to go to Japan obviously expect for a lot of people talking in Japanese.

Amphibious Cycle

Today in Cybersmarts we did a kind of search test and it was pretty fun we had to search up the answers of questions in different ways. Now we had to answer a big question one of the questions was what is the main purpose of the amphibious cycle. My answer was to go both on land and water and the invention was called an amphibious cycle.

What will you see in sight while searching?

In Cybersmarts today our task was to create a blog post about the things you will find when you search a particular thing on the web. I have made I diagram and I will explain and identify the things that I have circled for you. Our main search was Who is Austin Post.

As you can see I had circled the major parts in my search. The very top rectangle is diagramed as the search bar, the search bar is where you will type in the thing you want to know more about. The second Rectangle is indicating the filters in the filters there are different sections those sections are Images, Videos, New, Maps, and More to me the filters are like shortcuts to what you actually want to know. instead of searching it up very specifically. The small sized square is the place if you are specifically searching for someone famous it will show you who they really are and their real names, it can also show you simple and basic facts about them if you are trying to research about them. Now finally the largest rectangle is the Natural Results the natural results is the websites that are most related to your search so you will probably find your answer fairly quickly.

Fish In A Tree!?

"Everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." - Albert Einstein

My class had just finished reading a book called 'Fish In A Tree'.
In this book, the main character is Ally she is a young girl about 11 to 12 years old and has dyslexia. It all started off with her being lonely at school she had no friends it was always hard for her when she did reading. Then she made new friends with her kindness and acknowledgment, and their names were Albert and Keisha. She also was a girl that was bullied by two girls named Shay and Jessica, but the only reason for that is since she made a small mistake between her crackers and Shay's crackers.

Her teacher's name is Mr. Daniels, he is also the person trying to help Ally with dyslexia since all her other teacher did not understand what she was going through so she had a lot of time in detention for physically yes but not mentally. In the end, she found out her big brother Travis also has dyslexia so that is the first time she asks for help but for her brother. She never asked help as she knew something was wrong with her, the bullies that used to bully changed a whole lot one that is Jessica regretted all the things she had done and ended being friends with Ally and not with Shay. Also, Shay ended up feeling lonely and confused the same way Ally did so she realized what terrible things she did to Ally while Ally was having such a hard time.  "There is no impossible but there is Im- possible."

Averages DLO!

Hey, Everybody, For maths I am working on averages at first I thought it was going to be a bit hard and challenging but I still went for it, and it ended up being really fun and it started to end up being really easy. Even when it was with decimals! if you know averages give a comment and give me an equation like on the drawing so I can answer it and I can do a blog post about it on how I answered it. Then try to answer my equation!

Alchemy!

Today for science we did alchemy with alchemy our aim was to try turning a copper coin gold. for it to turn gold we had to boil 50 ml of zinc nitrate after that we add zinc metal strips to it. Then we let it boil for 10 minutes. I was put into a group with Teyha and Blake, at first, the color of your coin was turning into a rainbowish paua shell color. One of the groups had found a cool thing about their coin it was burnt so they tried to rub it and it ended being a shiny metallic color. For us we after the rainbow color it turned into a silverish color. It was a pretty fun experiment it didn't actually matter if we got it wrong or right because every other coin would change to different colors. In the process, we took a few photos and here they are.

Screenshot 2018-09-21 at 12.04.02 PM.png  This is how it is supposed to like when you set it up.
  .
Screenshot 2018-09-21 at 12.03.47 PM.png       We turned on the orange flame and it burned our beaker

Screenshot 2018-09-21 at 12.03.41 PM.png        This is a 20-second video of us hold the coin over the flame

Screenshot 2018-09-21 at 12.03.29 PM.png     and here is the final result it is a little shady but it turned out like a silvery color.

After the experiment, I thought that it was really fun and how I learned a lot more new things maybe I should have held it over the flame longer overall it turned out right.

Orana Park!!

On the 18th of September on Wednesday we went to Orana Park in Christchurch. Before we left to Orana park I put myself in so much trouble I woke up a 6am to just get to school early since I was so stoked to go. So we arrived at school an 8am since we walked, My feeling inside was the feeling of being a rocket just blowing up into the sky.  I don’t know why I was so excited to go when I already went there. To be honest with my opinion it was way better than going with family I still love going with them but it is much better when you get taught about them. The different thing was that if I was with my family I would mostly be shown the farm animals and all the common things and we wouldn’t get to stay at one animal long enough to admire them. But if I was with my zoo teacher We got to admire the animal, see the endangered ones and learn about it was a bit more fun than having to just actually walk around. The whole of year sevens was split up into four groups and I was in group 2 and my zoo teachers name was Elaine.

Some of the rules we learned about at the zoo were about the basics you climb over the fences to pet the big cats or poke you finger the fence of a cheetah but the one we had to talk about the most was HIPPO you might know or you might not know about it. No, it is not the animal a hippo but it stands for something and I will tell you what I means. The H means Habitat lost like animals if they lose their homes or it is demolished by us human to make farms or mall and stuff like that, that we have now. I mean Introduced species as in when other animals get brung into New Zealand that is not native in our country. The first P means pollution if you're polluting the animal habitat like if you litter in the drain it will go into our water source and that is the ocean so turtle they endangered and probably soon to extinct since we litter. The second P means Population growth there are more and more humans so that is more and more home then that means there are less and fewer animals and homes for them. Finally, for O it means Over exploitation that means when people killing animals for needs to much and the problem is that some people don’t hunt responsibly like some people kill the animals just for sake of killing or some people kill a rhino and just the horn.

Now I will tell you about what I have learned about the animals, the first animal we saw was the Kiwi everyone in NZ know what the kiwi is.

Kiwi - The kiwi is a nocturnal animal and if you have them in the and you want to feed them you have to feed them live insects because they won't eat them when they're dead.  They have strong bones in their legs unlike other birds when they have hollow bones to fly but the kiwi is a bird and they don’t fly.

Kea - the kea is national bird to NZ it’s a bird don’t give chocolate to kea because it is toxic to them and make sure you, before you drive the kea, is off your car if you do encounter that also if there are any kea around your location  if there is keep and shiny things safe.

Spider Monkey - Did you know that spider monkeys have a thumbprint on the end of their tail and also they use their tails to keep balance?

Lion - The cool thing about lion is that they have the loudest roar of all wild cats and their roar can be heard 5 miles away from them.

Tasmanian Devil - Did you know that Tasmanian devils are marsupials and they have a pouch and that pouch has the purpose of holding babies in it but it can only hold about 4 babies.

Tiger - Tigers live alone and spray to mark their territory.

Zebra - Did you know zebras are black with white stripes how do I know? It’s because they are born black and then slowly develop white stripes while they're growing up, and every zebra has a different stripe pattern.

Buffalo - The buffalos would go in the water and the nose would be poking out but the funny thing is that they hate rain so they go under the trees.
Cheetah - Cheetahs are the only big cat that can purr, cheetah need to rest after they have hunted their food since they use all their energy for it. So when they rest its food gets stolen by lions or hyenas.

Apes - The oldest ape is basically the boss of all the other younger apes and the younger ape must give him whatever he wants.
Orangutan - Orangutans put a sack over their head like sun hats.

Rhinoceros - Did you know that rhinos eat the giraffe's grass so the giraffes don’t get sick because the grass is bad for giraffes? Also they have to shape their own horn to get it in the right shape they want.

Giraffe - Giraffes tongues change from pink to purple so it doesn’t get sunburnt.

I had so much fun on that day and I would definitely recommend for you to come back again. There were so many things that I have learned about animal and how they are endangered. Also about hippo and that the kea was the only mountain parrot in the world.

Mindset DLO!

Today for philosophy we had to do DLO on mindsets and comparing them to each and one of my tasks is to tell you the reflection of what mindset I think I have.

I think I have a growth mindset for all subjects but I am in the middle for writing sometimes I feel like giving up but I keep going because I want to get better grades

Ice and Salt Experiment!

Today for science we had an ice and salt experiment the experiment itself was about putting an ice in cold water and placing a match gently on top of it then adding some salt. That will somehow create the match sticking onto the ice so you can just pick up the matchstick its self with the ice cube dangling off it.  I was in a group of three with Keghan and Teyha, the science behind his experiment is that the ice cube and water is state of forces being balanced. It releases a lot of energy in the form of heat, that means everything gets colder even the ice cube. So under the ice cube where there is no salt the ice refreezing and freezes the matchstick as well so the matchstick sticks to the ice.

My team was not so lucky we got the job but there was evidence as soon as we turned off the video succeeded but you couldn't see that we had so much trouble. Why? It's because we probably added too much or too less salt also we had to keep grabbing more ice cubes. After we finished we washed the beaker and there was a load of salt in there so we knew we used way to much salt. We took some photos so here they are.

Why do we sprinkle salt on icy roads? It helps the ice on the road to melt quicker so we drive on it and not slip and accidents.

Geometry Definition!

Today on the 13 of September 2018 in math I had to make a DLO defining all these things relating to geometry from what I have learned about them hope you like it and make sure to give feedback on anything I am missing.

Elephants Toothpaste!

Another day of science and it was amazing we got to try elephant toothpaste it was so fun we had a bit of trouble with the dry yeast but we succeeded and it looked great! here are a few photos of our experiment.

We Had to wear gloves and goggles to protect us.

  Here is the funnel empty

And here is the funnel  with some kind of poisonous liquid so that is why we wore gloves.

we put 3 tables spoon in dry yeast and made it look like peanut butter.

⚗⚛Testing for Simple Sugars⚛⚗

My Partner and I had made a solution that amazed my partner was the photographer and I was the person who did everything else. To find out more read down below.😃👍👇

Testing for Simple Sugars  (Benedict's Test)

Aim

I want to find out how to test for simple sugars.

Simple sugars are carbohydrates that are quickly absorbed by the body to produce energy. They are also classified as “simple” because they contain only one or two units of sugar or saccharides. Also referred to as simple carbohydrates, these sugars are found naturally in a variety of foods that we consume daily.

Equipment
  • Safety glasses
  • Bunsen burner
  • Test tubes
  • Test tube tongs
  • Benedict's Solution
  • Food sample
Method

  1. Place about 2mL of the food sample into a test tube and then add 5 drops of Benedict's solution and 5ml of water
  2. Gently heat the test tube over a blue flame.  DO NOT BOIL!

Results

A positive test for simple sugar results in Benedict's Solution changing from a blue color to a yellow color to an orange/red color.

Conclusion

Our experiment was a success the color changed, and it didn't boil either but that was a good thing. It started with a nice light blue color then changed to a rainbowish color at the bottom after it went  to green than orange/red. Simple sugars are carbohydrates that are quickly absorbed by the body to produce energy. They are also classified as “simple” because they contain only one or two units of sugar. Also referred to as simple carbohydrates, these sugars are found naturally in a variety of foods that we consume daily.
. we put glucose powder (dextrose)  in first then we put Benedict's solution with a bit of water.
