CIP - COMMUNITY IMPACT PROJECTS

Good Morning everyone!

Today for CIP we had a choice for what we want to do. The first choice was compost, In compost, you would have to grab all the rubbish from the compost heap since there is a lot of rubbish under the compost. So we had to make sure all that was gone since the rubbish wasn't going to go by itself if we tell it, we need the compost for the soil that we were going to use for our vegetable plants. the second choice was jam not to make but to make a poster about, we had to create a poster about the jam since we are selling it. The jam was going to be sold to staff and students it was going to be sold for 3 dollars which was a cheap price since it was nearly the same price ad jam at the supermarkets. In the posters, you had to mention what price they are you to also persuade so more people can buy it all the money will be going to the tools and soil we need. The last option was gardening that was the choice I had chosen, in gardening we had to go to the community garden and pick out the weeds we were told to pick out. Our hands got really dirty with dirt so afterward, we washed our hands of course, the day was really fun I was not there for the second period because I had other passions for the day apart from that the period was really fun.

Trip to Charlesworth Reserve

On Wednesday the 3rd of July we went for a trip to Charlesworth Reserve I was so excited to go on this trip since we were able to help the environment in New Zealand by planting native plants. We were allowed to come in mufti so we won't get our school uniform all muddy and dirty since we were going to do gardening. I wore something old so I wouldn't have to worry about getting my nice clothes dirty, on the day of the trip we left at around nine-thirty since it would take a long drive to the Charlesworth reserve. The main reason why we went there is for educational purposes since we are doing C.I.P which stands for Community Impact Project. It means we do the good things that create a positive impact on the environment, and since we are doing gardening here at school we were very lucky to be able to on this trip to be able to plant more trees not only in our school but around Christchurch. I find it really cool to know that we are doing a good thing to help our country and our environment, We also went there to help Charlesworth Reserve maintain their property since they are planting this many plants for habitats of birds, lizards and so on.

When we were going the class was very surprised by how many plants we had to try and plant there were at least hundreds of plants that we had to try and plant. Ours was to plant as many trees as we could so we could reach our goal of planting that many trees we thought we could definitely reach it with our huge imaginations and us believing ourselves. But weren't really close to the goal but it didn't make us look down on ourselves since it was already exhausting and we tried an absolute best to get a lot done. We reached at least 170 plants that we planted the ranger that showed us how to do everything his name is Andrew di not expect us to plant more than he expects his first batch was 100 so he added 70 more. I am happy that we all exceeded his expectations, It was really fun and we even found a few small crabs. People were having a blast they were sliding across the mud and digging for crabs but of course, in the end, we were told to cover up the holes and to avoid sliding on the mud.

The classes that went was 7/8AL, 7/8BH, 7/8TS to accompany us was the wonderful Mrs. Allan-Fletcher, Mr. Tisch, Whaea Jo, and Rachel and the rest of the classes had to stay behind.  After we did all the gardening we were able to have lunch but there was a long queue of girls waiting to go to the bathroom. After we had our lunch we had to help out collecting rubbish from this park close by, I shared a large black plastic bag with my two other friends Lhysette and Skyler. We found bottles and other pieces of rubbish we were not allowed to pick up the broken glass or sharp things because of course it is dangerous and that is a given. We even came across a few dogs and I really liked it because throughout the day the weather started to get really nice it was probably the best and warmest weather we had since April. That was the end of the trip I was definitely exhausted and there was mud all over my shoes and a bit on my leggings. On the bus I was really tired when we got back it was around 2 15 and we did sleeping lions and when we played I think I fell asleep without know since my friend Slyer thought I was sleeping.

In the end, it was amazing and was really exciting to experience it since it wasn't a usual thing I would do it was relaxing and fun to do it with my friends as well.

Wind speed - Making an anemometer.

MATERIALS

1.  4 straws
2.  4 disposable/Styraphome cups (or cups you can poke holes through)
3.  A pencil with an eraser on the end
4.  Tape
5.  Pin

STEPS

1.   Get all your materials ready to start creating
2.   Grab two straws and insert one straw into the other creating a long stick and do it to the other two.
3.   Tape both long straws together creating an x or + sign.
4.   Grab a pin and push it through both straws to keep it secure.
5.   Under your cross or plus you will see a bit od the pin poking out grab your pencil and push the eraser bit of the pencil into the pin.
6. Now you have created yourself an Anemometer

Once you have made an anemometer we are going to record the wind speed.

Group size: 5

You will need:

Anemometer (above) 

Roles:

• Timekeeper
• Counter
• Recorder
• Anemometer Manager
• Wind generator

1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
2. When the timekeeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
3. If possible, repeat the above step four (4) times and record the average number of spins on the chart.

FINDINGS

• Record how many times it spins using the table below.

You will need to create the wind yourself by blowing. Get 4 different wind speeds by blowing.

You will need to time them and count the number of spins.

• Can you make a statement connecting the number of spins of your anemometer and the speed of the wind? 

For the first one, we got many spins because we were in front of a wind tunnel once it came out it forced a lot of wind when it came out of the tunnel. For the third one we also got many spins because it was quite a windy day and we faced it the way the wind was coming.

CONCLUSION:

I think it was really fun doing this experiment and making it, I never knew about this stuff and thought it was cool when we had to test the wind we started to develop thinking on how we can get more spins. We also watched a video that surprised us on how tough and strong the wind is in many other countries it was actually surprising. I am really happy we don't have strong winds here in NZ.

Cool to be kind - radical rainbow mufti day

Last week for CIP in cool to be kind we started on a session for mufti day, On the day we needed to decide and plan what our theme was going to be. We had to get into groups of 2 to 4 in my group there were 4 people counting me. In our process of planning, we had to make sure our theme was based on a crazy kind of thing. My friends and I weren't the types of people that like to wear bright colors but we still went with simple kinds of things like bright colors. 

We thought black and white was a good theme since it would kind of be crazy in our mind with everything black and white. But of course, we always need a bit of color so we had no idea what to pick. A few moments after trying to plan we were called down to the mat and needed to share our idea's to see which one people liked the best. Some people mentioned neon clothing and other crazy stuff, in our group we came up with black and white as mentioned before, bright colors, pigtails, edgy. 

To make the theme sound more interesting we needed to come up with descriptive words the describe the theme. Some people came up with "Peculiar Pastel" or ""Crazy Hairstyles" at this time I was alone and my friends well the rest of the people in my group had left for their passions which were singing. In that time alone I had to come up with descriptive words for our ideas since I was alone I needed to join a group of two which made us a three.

 The idea that was voted on the most was "RADICAL RAINBOW" so it was agreed on and was finalized for the theme. The donations from the mufti day will be donated to Kids Can, they are a program or charity that provides the basics to children who need it the most. The reason why we are donating it to them is that they spread kindness and in our CIP our slogan is "It's Cool To Be Kind", I am not leaving any other charities because all charities spread kindness. 

We think it's best to do a mufti day to donate because you need to bring a gold coin to wear mufti if there is no gold coin then no mufti. The mufti day is on Thursday the 8th which is tomorrow I am relieved because we are able to just wear one color of the rainbow since I am not the kind of person who wears bright colors as said before. For the mufti day, there will be 8 people selected to collect the gold coins around the school for working hard in CIP. 

I am happy we are doing a mufti day to donate because it is nice knowing we are able to do something to help the people in need especially when they're kids. On that day we also created posters to spread the awareness of the mufti day.

Materials:

1. Cups - x4 
2. Water
3. Tin Foil
4. Sheets of white paper - x2 
5. A sheet of black paper - x1
6. Thermometer
7. A large cup - x1
8. Heat Lamp

Steps

1.   Grab all your materials and place them down on a spacious surface.
2.   Fill all small cups to the line on the cup if there is no line fill up at least 2/3 of the cup with tap water.
3.   Place a larger cup over one of the cups to create a greenhouse effect.
4.   Put 1 cup on a white paper, another on another white paper, and the other two with one on tin foil and the other on black paper. - (Make sure the cup with the larger cup on top is on a white paper.
5.  Let the cups be in a hot environment if not use heat lamps.
6.  For research purposes, you can measure the temperature with a thermometer every 15 minutes.

Findings:

I think we succeeded but some of the temperatures went up and down which confused in our opinion maybe it was because we were in the environment that was near the door. the warmest was on the tin foil; because of the light reflecting on the foil, and in the start it was of course much warmer because of the heat lamp.
Conclusion:

I am really proud of our group and that we succeeded our results were surprising and confusing. Maybe because of the heat changing, of course, it was the heat lamp but also because we got sunlight and an artificial light adding on with our body temperature creating heat. Overall it was a really fun and cool experiment to do because of solar energy and renewable energy from the sun.

Ella west

Recently I have been noticed by a famous New Zealand author, being able to feel this is amazing  In my opinion, I feel really privileged and overjoyed that I have been able to be noticed by an author. Being able to encounter her personally is really exciting since most kids do not get this privilege, I’m really grateful that I am a student that is in this generation since we have the ability to blog. I have been told by my school's principal that he counting other teachers would have never experienced this. Because we have Learn Create Share, in our generation, it is faster and quicker to receive and send letters or notices because of blogs. Back in the day, most people would have never actually been able to really get in contact with famous people around the world. since they would have to send letters which would take days and a few more days to even reply. 

Personally meeting Ella West is really stimulating I am so thankful and proud of my reading group that we were even able to reach Ella West. Now that she is coming to our school see us is thrilling, she will be coming in a few weeks and I am already getting butterflies in my stomach.

DRAMA - Slam poetry & Puberty

In week 2 on Tuesday in our drama session, we were doing slam poetry and learning about puberty. A slam poetry a kind of poem that most kids use in this generation mostly young kids or teenagers. Most teenagers do a poem about political issues or racism but the kids in their 13s or 12s do poems about beauty or not being good enough. On that day we also talked about puberty just the basic thing about our body changing and us kids turning into adults the details won't be necessary for obvious reasons.

In the puberty session, a lot of kids were giggling which would obviously have happened, in puberty was weird but my friends and I were mature about. In puberty, it is where your hormones are going to start acting up. You will feel emotional, or you will feel or notice things you never had before.

For the slam poetry, we needed to improve our previous poem which was the BTS poem while I was reading one bit near the end Skyler and Shiela danced boy with Luv by BTS. They danced to the main bit which is the chorus. In the end, we still kept us doing actions for the ARMY chant for BTS, the chant goes
