Science - The water cycle.

AIM: TO LOOK AT THE WATER CYCLE AND HOW CLIMATE CHANGE IS AFFECTING IT.

Definition:

The water cycle is where the sun evaporates the water from either the ocean, lakes and etc. Then it will transpire from different plants which are like evaporating water and moist from plants. once it has gone through that process it will create clouds scientifically it would be called condensation. After it would rain since the clouds would be saturated and rain in science this is called precipitation, This process would keep restarted which is called the water cycle.

Scientific words:

  • Evaporation. When water is heated by radiant energy it turns into water vapor.
  • Transpiration. Evaporation from plants.
  • Condensation. When water vapor cools, molecules join together and form clouds.
  • Precipitation. When clouds get heavy the waters falls as rain, sleet, hail, or snow.
  • Acidification: the action or process of making or becoming acidic.

We will be conducting an experiment that looks at the different ways that climate change is affecting the water cycle.

THE WATER CYCLE EXPERIMENT

Bag 1: Normal Water cycle
Bag 2: Water cycle with CO2 added: like Oceans in climate change
Bag 3: Water cycle with ice added: like Antarctica in climate change

Material:

  1.  2 Plastic bag (ziplock)
  2.  Vivid pen
  3.  A cup of water and half a cup of soda water.
  4.  Food coloring
  5. Litmus paper (only for the one with soda water)

Steps:

  1.  Grab a plastic bag (ziplock) it should be partly large.
  2.  Grab a pen and start to draw the clouds, water, trees, and words.
  3.  Pour a cup of water into the bag not too much.
  4.  add at least two drops of food coloring the color of your choice but ideally blue
  5.  Stick the bag on a window where the sun comes through regularly.

Two Images:

Findings:

I think the water will moist in the bag and it will fog up a bit at the top - Condensation
I also the water will become less - Evaporation

I think for the second one the will be more air forming in the bag cause the bag to expand for example when you blow a balloon it will fill up with air, then if we did it right the yellow paper will become red.

Conclusion:

In science today we looked at the water cycle in my past I have already learned about the water cycle but I was a bit foggy after today session it all cleared up. We learned 4 new words the I have not known about before except evaporation since I already knew about it. Today for our researching part we had to find out the definition of the water cycle and include the four words we had learned. It was easy since we were allowed to search up on google but we must put it in our own words after we did a project. That project was including a glad bag if you don't know what that is it is also called a ziplock bag, and on the ziplock bag, we had to draw the water cycle. In the drawing, it had to include a piece of land and on that land had to be planted. it also had to have the ocean, clouds, the sun, and rain. We did the same thing for the second one but it had to be soda water and there would be a special paper cal Litmus paper on and the next time we check it might be red if we did it right. You had to have at least 3 people in your group. I really enjoyed this session of science and it was really fun.
