Film Study - Identifying camera shots - Photo shots and angles

As one of my first tasks for my film study class, we needed to create a presentation. Where it could show the definition and examples of different types of photo shots and angles. This is so we can know before-hand, to whichever shots or angles are being shown in a movie that we will be studying. I created my presentation using 'Canva' and made a short film.

I hope you can learn from my presentation, and give me feedback regarding things I need to improve on, or the things that you enjoyed.

Marketing and Selling - Business Studies

In our business studies, we needed to create an advertisement, on a particular product that we chose out of limited options.

We needed to make sure we understood everything, we needed to know what our consumers or customers would take interest in.

We had to focus on colors, wording, and how it's a good product.

My partner Skyler and I had chosen 'playing cards' as we thought the rest of the options were quite boring. We also wanted to bring out a better aspect of cards to grab people's attention. Because cards don't have to be used on just playing card games they can be used for other things.

We decided to create a short clip instead of a poster or slide because you don't have to click and can add more information.

Here is our advertisement for "playing cards."

Critical Reflection - Hurumanu 5

Hello fellow people!

For the whole 13 weeks of hurumanu 5, we have learnt about many things such as algebra, figuring out what's the math in images, geometry, angles, and tesselation.

In our algebra, we started off simply using images to represent the so-called letters, figuring out algebra equations visually. With images seemed to be fun it was obviously a bit easier than letters. I think people focus a lot more from what we see rather than figuring out something or just looking at boring letters.

We moved to work in workbooks, not really anything major but copying down shapes into our books, To learn about reflection, translation, and rotation.

Doing more things around algebra, we needed to do things about squares it doesn't have to be squares but it's just what we used as an example. We needed to figure out how many squares were in a square. We just needed to keep going no matter how big it got. While doing that e needed to figure out a formula that could equal the right amount of squares there would be in any size squares. I found this unusually really enjoyable.

On a website called "Euclidia" we learnt about angles with using simple shapes like a circle, we were able to use a circle or more to try to figure out what the particular angle was.

We also looked at tesselation art, how there could just be shapes or images that would keep going and going. Thinking about it makes it seem pretty complex make you really question it. We had to create our own tesselation art. With lizards and the whole class joined them all and stuck it on the wall. If you just looked at it it would've been ongoing nonstop.

We learnt about the Fibonacci Sequence it similar to tesselation art.

We also did things about all these topics and algebra on "Mathletics" to revise our topics.

Our project:

For around 2 weeks at the most we've been creating a project, a project particularly based around math.

For our project, we needed to pick a particular type of math, my group had decided on graphing we wanted to create a formula that could create any shape. Mixing art and math together was what we thought a great idea. We wanted to figure out the points. Which would connect to each other creating some sort of shape or image?

At first, we thought it would be easy, because we were only thinking about what shape we would use, we actually didn't think about the algebra part of our project. Admitting that we were a bit stupid thinking graphing is already part of algebra. It is but what we really needed to was to create a formula that could create any shape. but halfway we needed to get serious, thinking about how we could create a formula that can point out any shape.

We started to take thought about geometry, we noticed that shapes symmetric that gave us more clues on figuring out how we could create the formula. We needed to make sure that if one side were these numbers it would also be the same on the other side. Due to symmetry.

Finally, we figured out an equation we are not totally sure if it's right but the equation is:

p = n x 1

Lemon Batteries

What are "Lemon Batteries?"

It's a battery often used for educational purposes. It is a chemical reaction of turning chemical energy into electrical energy

Aim: To produce an electrical current using lemons.

Equipment:

  • Copper Electrode
  • Zinc Electrode
  • Copper Wire
  • Lemon
  • Voltmeter
Steps/Method:

1. Roll the lemon around to break the little juice packets inside, make sure it's nice and juicy, to know that it's nice and
juicy, you'll notice the lemon gets softer.

2. It's okay, if you don't have copper wire, the experiment will still work either way. Poke the lemon using the zinc
electrode and the copper electrode.

3. Using the voltmeter's test probes, connect or pin it, the red (positive) prove on the copper electrode and the black
or yellow (negative) probes on the zinc electrode. You'll then see how much volts are inside of the battery on the scale.

Creative Manufacturing - ID Tag

Today is the last day of making our ID Tag. I've rubbed mine with sandpaper to make the surface and edges smoother. In our lesson for today, I have to polish my aluminum and stamp my initials to it.
I have a lot of scratches on my aluminum so I really had to polish it really thoroughly.

Here is a  photo of how we polished our ID Tag and the finishing product:

Before shot:

After shot:

The first thing we needed to do was to get aluminum, we had a long strip so we needed to measure it to make sure the width and length were right. The width needed to be 20 cm and the length needed to be 45 cm. We measured this using a metal ruler. Since we needed to cut it we needed to make it one or two cm bigger than 45. Because when you cut the metal it is not going to be perfect unless you are a professional. So using a scriber I engraved a small line on the sides. Then using a engineers square I lined it up to the lines and engraved a line. The engineers square is there to make the line straight. After that, we needed to cut the metal, then we need to file it down to the 45 cm line.

We then used spring dividers to make the curves on the ends, the way we did this was by measuring where the center of the I.D tag was. Then put one of the legs of the spring divider on the center point. After that lengthen the space between the legs to your choice. Then kind of scrape it to make the curved lines do this on both sides. Now you need to file it down to those lines, this part is optional. But for me, I had sandpapered it and one of the mistakes I had made was the I also sandpapered the faces. Which cause scratches which didn't make it look appealing anymore.

I then needed to bluff my work, but before that, we had to drill a hole into the top of our I.D tag. Now using another type of drill we created kind of bowl shape over the hole. Which gave it some style. Now talking about the bluffing,  since it would be too hot for us to hold it by hand when bluffing. We need to hold the I.D tag using pliers, even if I could withstand the heat, like by using gloves. I would still use pliers because the bluffer spins so fast and it's scary. After that, you need to stamp maybe initials or a name. Using metal stamps and a hammer, you put the stamp over the I.D tag with the letter facing the right way. Then in one strong go, hit the stamp with your hammer if you hit the stamp more than once. It might make it look like two letters over each other. Which doesn't really look nice, another tip is to make you bluff before you stamp in my personal experience.

I enjoyed this project and thought it was really nice, plans did change throughout the working of this. Because I was going to give it to my dog but we ended up needing to sell him. So now I gave it to my mum, probably the hardest to do overall. Was get the right measurements and then needing to polish. I get that because I am not professional, but this was an interesting experience.

Hurumanu - Power To The People

Author: The Press
Title: 25 Women under 25 to watch

Today for the English part of our Social Studies and English hurumanu, we needed to read a book at the start of the period. So we can blog about it after, as I didn't bring a book to read. Our teacher Mrs. Clark provided paper flip pages to read, I decided to read the one about powerful women.

What I really liked about this book was that it really cave credit to women, I also learned some things about these successful women. Although these wonderful women are successful. They didn't have a perfect road where their fate was to be doing what they are doing. Some of them experienced anxiety or some of the disabilities, but that's not the point. They are genuinely loved by their fans for their work, not because they pity them. It is pretty amazing at what they have achieved.

Science: Lab Safety

Science, Lab Safety

How to keep yourself safe:

  • Place bags under desks.
  • Do not run in the lab.
  • Do not use equipment immaturely.
  • Wear the proper gear.
  • If you have long hair tie it up - when doing an experiment.
  • Do not eat or drink in the lab.
  • Wear safety gear like safety glasses or gloves - when doing an experiment.
  • Wash your hands after handling chemicals.
  • Do not smell or inhale and especially taste the chemicals.
  • Don't play around with chemicals without the teacher's permission.
  • Dispose of lab waste properly - Broken Glass, Chemicals.

Safety:
To protects yourself from harm or dangers.

Hazardous:
When an object or place can be dangerous to you.

Meniscus:
The curves that are seen at the top of a liquid depending on the container.

Paragraph Writing

For my social studies as an extra, I had done a kind of essay? as I could say. I had done an "essay" about how to to write a paragraph. I put down the key points about writing a paragraph. I also wrote down the meaning for the T.E.E.L acronym, also two paragraphs about myself.

If you would rather go to the document itself here is a link -
~Click on this link~

If you would rather read it on here -

  • Your paragraph will be much better if you start it with rhetorical questions. Or start it with a sentence that states the subject and main idea.
  • Develop a thesis statement, if your first sentence was a statement about the main idea. Then you should come up with facts or describe the main idea. If it was a question you should answer the question.  This should be at least 3 - 5 sentences.
  • Write down things that support or argue with your thesis in order of importance. This is a good way to make the reader believe you. For example, you wrote a paragraph about koalas. You write something down about it. So you must have a scientific explanation.
  • Add an example.
  • Make sure to summarize your topic.
  • Write down your opinion, or why you think it's true.
  • Have evidence if it’s for a persuasive or research paragraph. Or give a link to where you got your information from.

T.E.E.L acronym meaning:

T - Topic - Start your paragraph with a sentence based on the topic or main subject.
E - Explanation - Give an explanation about the topic, or give your opinion.
E - Evidence & Examples - Give evidence and examples to prove your statements.
L - Link - A link is to show you are telling the truth and showing where you got your information.

Use T.E.E.L as a guide when writing your paragraphs, it makes things a lot easier. Using this acronym works and many different kinds of paragraphs. Mainly informative and persuasive ones, but it also works on essay paragraphs. Or just your usual kinds of paragraphs.
Here are 2 paragraphs based on myself as an example of how I do it:

My name is Rieya Naidu and this is about me!
Let’s say I have quite a large family, I wouldn't say I have such a big family where I have 13 people in my family. I don’t have a typical kind of family. We are a mix of cultures, we call it a fruit salad. We have Kiwi, Filipino, Spanish, and Fiji-Indian.  We have strict rules, always babysitting, and NEVER allowed to waste time but we live happily. However, we did not expect to face some circumstances and trials in our lives. It has been hard since there are two kids still young. So it’s me the oldest and one of my sisters the second oldest. Who has the obligation to look after them? But our family never loses hope, and our parents always find a way to make our lives normal.

Ok, now let’s talk about me. My full name is Rieya Preciousa Naidu, I am 13 years of age and am a freshman in high school. I have three little sisters, so I have a family of six. As I have a Filipino family in the Philippines I have a lot of cousins, aunties, grandmas, and grandpas. The same goes for the Fiji-Indian side. Likes? Well I have a passion for badminton, and netball believe it or not I like to do sports. Sometimes I pretend I don’t want to since my friends don’t. But sometimes I'd rather listen to myself than them.  I have a shy personality, but once I trust someone I am the exact opposite around them. I am not the brat type of person but I will act a bit like that. But only depending on the way someone treats me. I love to be organized if I see in the house something messy it is triggering. For some reason, I have a big sister instinct to keep my sisters safe. Of course when I am trying to make sure they don’t get in trouble or keep them safe they think I'm being mean. But I mean a big sister has to do what they need to to keep the young ones safe and sound.

(I know I didn’t do my things based on T.E.E.L but this is an example of how I write my paragraphs.)

Athletics Day 2020

Hello fellow people!

Yesterday, on the 5th of March, Hornby High School had their school athletics for 2020. Beforehand you were supposed to pick between competitive and social, social is where you do athletics but your scores don't matter. It's just a matter of trying and participating, you could even just skip or walk for sprints! For competitive it's the opposite you have to care about scores and be competitive. So you have to try your very best so you can get a high score. Which leads you to have an opportunity to participate in the Canterbury athletics. I have never picked competitive I had always picked social, so of course I picked social again.

The day started off with us doing our first two periods of the day and having a short morning tea to get food into us. It took a while until we had our first round which was discuss. This particular sport is something I'm bad as I have small and wimpy arms before we went to discuss. My friends and I decided to watch the competitor's sprints and they were really fast. When I did discuss I was really surprised because I didn't want to try my best which you were allowed to do. As long as you participated, But it actually went pretty far. It stayed in the plate position while it was in the air which has never happen to me. After that we did sprints, and I was really excited because I love doing sprints but it turns out I trained too hard. For nothing, because I wanted to verse people and be fast but they decided to walk so It was a bit embarrassing.

Next, we played shotput that was also our last it went decently far for my spaghetti arms so I was proud of myself. I achieved coming first in the sprints which didn't matter but was still proud of myself. The relay at the end was amazing I was screaming and cheering for  blue house. I was smiling at the end and was happy for my house which is blue. Because they won after trying so hard. This year my athletics was boring because I wanted to compete so now that I have learned my lesson. Next year I will be joining competitive instead so I can really run my best with competing with other people. I also want to be able to compete because I am competitive I love winning but I am not a sore loser.

Creating Manufacturing - My Sign

In creative manufacturing for that last week or so we have been working on signs, to be specific the mandatory, prohibited and hazardous sign. Since last week we had been told to create our personal sign for our workshop. You were allowed to pick the kind of sign between the three, we started our draft on paper but it was optional so you were allowed to do digitally. Both my friends had picked mandatory signs and I had picked a prohibited sign.

At the start, it was a difficult choice you weren't allowed to copy each other, as to the results of having two of the same signs which aren't really ideal. My sign was based on food since it was a prohibited sign you needed to make it obvious on what it is trying to tell you. With mandatory signs, it is fine because it still tells you what to do but with a visual image as well. A hazardous sign also needs to be obvious since it is only a picture on a yellow triangle.

Mine was "no eating or drinking in the workshop" it is obvious since it has a red angular line through it, making people see it is something not to do. It has a burger in a drink bottle as the icon in the sign, everyone has a reason why that sign. Mine was because there are different kinds of chemicals in the workshop. if you touch those chemicals and then eat there is a potential you are risking your health because once you consume the chemical you could get sick. The same goes for a drink in the class as you might spill it and someone might slip. Or chemicals could get on your drink bottle and then you would drink it.

Well being Whare:

Hauora is a Maori philosophy of wellbeing and health, it is the same as six dimensions of wellbeing. They are pretty similar apart from us having 4 dimensions as you could say, each dimension has a meaning and an important impact in our lives. In New Zealand, each dimension represents a wall. All the walls create a house that's why there are only 4 dimensions.

Here are the meanings of each of the walls -

Taha Tinana:
This wall means physical wellbeing, this impacts on your life since you need to stay healthy physically. For example, eating healthy would be apart of Taha Tinana or exercising.

Taha Hinengaro:
This wall means mental wellbeing, this impacts on our lives to stay mentally healthy or be happy and calm. Also exercising or calming your brain preventing you from being stressed all the time. Just simply sleeping can be part of Taha Hinengaro.

Taha Whanau:
This wall means social wellbeing but in English, it means family, this impacts our lives because everyone needs someone to depend on sometimes. Hanging out or spending time with family and friends would be apart of Taha Whanau.

Taha Wairua:
This wall means spiritual wellbeing, this impacts our lives because some would be really religious or have a religious family. But this is not only about gods or souls, but it is also actually about what you believe in. so if you believe in aliens then so be it.

In our classroom, we had created our own whare's at the start we had to write on each thing (foundation, walls, roof). On the foundation, we had to write down everything or everyone who makes us happy or defines who we are. On each of the walls, we had to write one of the dimensions (one wall = Taha Tinana/Physical)

At the front of my whare which is really the door, the side that is the most important dimension to me is Taha Tinana. The reason for it is because the sport has been important to me since I was young. I loved to play netball and football when I was in primary in my last year I liked to play basketball. I carried on playing basketball for my first year in intermediate but also started to play badminton. Then badminton started to be my passion, and it turned out it was something that played throughout my whole family. Now I love to play badminton and netball and they are also my favorite sports.

When building our wellbeing whare it was like living our lives, our teacher Mr. Stock purposely cut off a few flaps to make it challenging for us. He explained to us that we are always allowed to ask for help. Because in our lives we are always allowed to ask for help when we need it.

Everything is built on our foundation which keeps us happy and we need all the dimensions in our lives our roof is our happiness so we need all these dimensions to hold up our happiness.

Hazards and signs - Creative Manufacturing

What is the meaning of hazard:
The meaning of hazard commonly means when you are in danger or at risk, for example, you visit a cave there will mostly be a sign there saying "hazard". Because you may be at risk inside as the cause of natural disasters. Because the worst place to be when there is an earthquake is in a cave. But it really depends on how stable it is. Or there might be a sign near a dangerous machine saying "Hazard" once again. Because you never know if you are risking your life near it because you might think you know what you are doing.

1. Mandatory
You will most likely see these kinds of signs on the road, for example, a mandatory sign is there to keep everyone in order when driving.  Like if there is traffic these signs are there to tell you what to do, Sometime you will see this in workshops. For example, there will be a sign asking you to wear a face shield. unlike all the other signs a mandatory sign is to tell you what to do rather than tell you what not to do.

2. Hazard
A hazard sign is there to warn you about hazardous materials, radioactivity and so on, most of the symbols are really obvious on what they are warning you about. You will mostly see these signs where it is dangerous like construction sites, or workshops. If people have common sense they have to follow these signs and be cautious. Because it can risk lives.

3. Prohibited
Thes kind of signs is where they tell what you are not allowed to do, generally things you cant use and the kind of people. A prohibited sign normally has a black symbol inside of a red circle and a red angular line right across it. mostly you will see a cigarette symbol, that would obviously mean no smoking.

What this!
