Night Vision book review.

In the last semester which is Term 2 my group and I have been doing a novel study on a specific book which is "Night Vision". A novel study is where you do activities that are based on a book you have to study the book and make sure you read it properly, so it would be easier to answer. Last terms reading was interesting I was not expecting to do a study on a novel since I have never done anything like it. I loved the book and thought it was really interesting to study, what pulled me into the book was the title of the book and it had explained more in the short blurb at the back of the book. After reading the blurb it had interested me more, Ella West must have really put lots of effort into getting people interested in her books. The cover, blurb, title they were all well thought out and it really was a good match for the story of the book.

In my opinion, the book was an enjoyable book to read at the start I already started to put my mindset into the book and imagined that I was really in the scene of the book. At the start, my emotions were all over the place I was shocked, thrilled and excited. Who wouldn't after a kid just witnessed a crime of theft and murder. At the back of the book, there was a question I couldn't really remember it but it was saying "Will she take it and run?" when reached to the point in the middle or towards the end it started to make sense.

Rating this book I would rate it 8/10 the reason I have chosen this score is that it was a really interesting book in the story I don't think that there was any part that I was interested in I loved it. I would have given it a full score but I would love the ending to be a bit longer I feel like it was a bit rushed in the end. When I finished reading the book I had so many questions in my head for example, "Is that it?" or "I want to know more". It just would have been a bit better if the ending made more sense and was not so rushed.

IF Ella made a second part I would that would be amazing and would want to read it, if I was Ella West and was making a new book for the second part of Night Vision. I would be more of like a diary of when she is an adult now and she is thinking the day back to when this situation had happened. Or if they or she became a doctor and found a cure to her disease she would finally be able to meet the sun again. But of course, I am not the author it is just some ideas that were floating around in my head.

To know a bit more about what I have been working on some of my activities:

Before Reading:

What Impression do you get from the front cover? What can you infer about the book? -
When I first got the novel we were told not to look on the backside and only the front cover of the book. We were also told what the front cover looked like in my head my answer was it looks like she was running away or to something. The font was a bit scary but only a bit and it made me think it was a scary kind of novel, The lighting on the front cover represents the night vision effect which was the title. There were short slogans on the front cover one of them said “Would you take the money and run?” that made me think she robbed someone and was running away since there was a photo of a girl running. But the slogan was a question probably meanings he is stuck in a situation where she has to decide a choice, probably whether she takes the money and runs or stay and wait there were a lot of ideas in my head of the other choice could be.

Read the blurb on the back. Does this interest you? why/why not? -
I read the blurb on the back of the book in my head I started at the top and there was a short sentence in big bold letters and that really caught my attention. It was saying “Viola was born with a genetic condition that makes sunlight deadly.” It really caught my attention because I like read watch or listen to documentaries about rare or supernatural sicknesses because it is really interesting to me and some of them are like superpowers. When I read the rest of the blurb I got interested it seems like she often uses night-vision goggles, there were bits causing suspense saying something about her seeing something that could get not only her but her whole family living in the farm trouble. Now she is deciding whether or not she can do some big help to save her family and far, It mentioned if it was okay for her to steal from a thief. It also had many questions I think those questions were questions that were birds flying around in her head and she needs to shoot the right bird. But also the sentence about Viola being born with a genetic condition that makes the sunlight deadly is forgotten but I am waiting if more is mentioned in the story.

There is more but it is way too much so here is a link to it -

  1. Hi Rieya
Love your work - you've done heaps. Totally agree with the superpowers bit - that's why I wanted to write about a character with XP. Was so much to write about. I've also written Rain Fall which you might like to read as well. All the best!
