10 English - 321 RIQ

Hi fellow viewers!

Today we are going to do another '321 RIQ' if you don't know what '321 RIQ' is I had explained it in my recent English blogpost :)

But this time we will be writing more about what we recall from our lessons about film.

-------------------------------------------

3 Recall -

  • I remember I needed to create a table with different camera shots and images along with them, as examples.
  • I remember us revising static images and how they send messages to people visually. For example the toilet signs. Practically everyone knows the toilet signs, same with other static images. We needed to revise 12 signs from a typical Spanish train station, mainly one that was very old. So some signs were pretty old. As an example for the exit sign, an arrow would be pointing outwards from a box. From that, you could understand what the entry sign would be.
  • I also remember Mrs. Truter our English teacher mentioned that we would be starting off our English classes with film study, and next would be simply writing.
  • We also learned about how people are usually used as references for camera shots and angles. As people are usually the same size on an average, rather than a building. It would be seen from a totally different perspective, for example, a close-up shot. Here for people, you would see their head and shoulders. Imagine this shot on a building, it will be pretty difficult as houses or buildings are all different sizes.

1 Question -

  • Maybe if we're doing film study, we could really find a way for it to be fun. For e.g, we could possibly study a movie like we did last year and critically informatively reflect on the movie?

Reflection Section - Wananga

Today for my Wananga class, we need to summarise anything we want. Whether it be an article, a trailer, a video. We can summarise anything just so we can practice how to summarise in general.

Text Title: The story behind 'My Hero Academy'.

Text Type: Anime

Text Creator: Kohei Horikoshi

Text Purpose: To inform us about the story behind the protagonist in the anime.

My Hero Academy is an anime involving supernatural powers called quirks. These quirks developed with humans over time, since years have passed. Those 'quirks' had become normal in society. Around 80% of their world have quirks, and 20% don't, ironically the protagonist was among the 20%. Overall the summary about the anime is that Deku the protagonist has an all-mighty dream to become like his idol. His idol is the one who passed on his powers to him, which was unbelievable for him. Because of his big goals and striving to achieve he became the number 1 hero.

10 English - The benefits and advantages of blogging

Hello everyone!

I know this is a late post, but I will be talking about my first English assignment for 2021. Our new English teacher was also new to our school. She originally taught in Auckland and moved down south for family matters. Her name is Mrs. Truter and she is a wonderful teacher, I am definitely looking forward to her teaching us more. I don't know how but she has a way of teaching that gets us to really remember the things she teaches the class. Well, at least that's the case for me.

In our 200 word essay, we had to of course make sure that we had 200 words and that was our minimum. We also had to answer 3 questions which were -

  • What are the benefits of blogging?
  • What the advantages of your teacher knowing your concerns?
  • How does learning English benefit us through blogging?
Now here is my work, enjoy!

Benefits of blogging

Personally, I think we do blogging to summarise our work or to show our understanding of the topic. Blogging also gives us the opportunity to practice our writing skills, so we can get better at grammar and punctuation. Blogging can also be a place where we can put down our notes to possibly help us in future projects. In my personal opinion, I enjoy blogging it gives me a sense of achievement, or it shows me how hard I’ve worked. Regarding what my previous teacher said about blogging, apparently, it has been proven that blogging increases our writing level. The new generation is pretty lucky if I say so my self, because if we compare how we do work now to how people did it back then. Our writing may have been easier for us to learn but come out with great results. A blog can also be a perfect platform for LCS. This means Learn, Create, Share, from learning in class, creating a project, and sharing it on to our blog. A blog can also give inspiration to others for their work and can keep people in touch. Also, a project called the Summer Learning Journey gives you prizes for doing blogs throughout the holidays. This benefits our grades, so they can still stay at the same level or decrease only slightly.

The advantages of having my teacher know/read my concerns, opinions, reflections about my progress. This can help us reflect on our work, knowing our mistakes and correcting them. We can know what to do next time. We can then improve, this can also give us a chance to help other students by giving them feedback and something to reflect on them. Speaking on feedback, naturally, if we get feedback there would be two options. Ignoring it or listening to it, but it would be better to listen, so we can have a good time. Teachers can also get an idea of how we write, making it easier for them and us.

Throughout our life, we need to know English as it benefits probably everything we do, for example, we need to have good English for a career. In my opinion, blogging definitely helps us through English as we get to practice it. It provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our English, It also opens up our writing range/span to a wider audience. It can also provide a good platform with feedback that could possibly help us with our English.

425 words in total.

10 English - Story

Hello everyone!

In one of the previous lessons for English we needed to create a story that includes the following words:

  • Fallacy
  • Enigma
  • Disappearance
  • Suspicion
It may seem boring to you, but I do base all my stories on movies and that's where I get my inspiration from.

Before learning those four words we needed to learn the definition of them. Because basically everyone in the class. Didn't know what two of the words were, which could possibly be obvious to you. But if you didn't know, the two words were 'fallacy and enigma'. I was actually pretty proud that I was able to learn these two words. Because it makes me feel a lot smarter saying those words, or saying that I know these words.

Finally, enough of me talking, you can now read my story, which I hope you'll enjoy reading.

The Kidnapper

Jane was walking behind her mother, looking like she was depressed as usual. They were going to go shopping, after all, Jane does come from a rich family. Jane always seems to disappoint her mother, defying her orders, going against what the mother wants for her. The mother is always saying she just wants what’s best for her. But Jane knows that her mother just doesn’t want her to embarrass her and ruin her reputation. While they were strolling the streets in town, from the corner of Jane’s eye she sees an edgy person in a black hoodie. At first, she didn’t mind it she didn’t want to make any assumptions, but it still put her into suspicion. But once she looked again, she had seen something terrible, the man that she had previously seen, grabbed a child’s arm and held her tight, covering her mouth. He ran into a dark alleyway, without thinking Jane ran after the suspicious man.

Before she could even think, she just ran, it was something that would have just been so tedious to her. While she was running she was panicking at the thought of possibly dying, but she knew she had to do something. Jane always thought that kidnappers were an enigma. She was so overwhelmed with the decision she made and her thoughts, that she lost track of the man. Once she zoned back in, she just kept running but all of a sudden, someone grabbed her roughly. His arms were so strong his bulky hands covered her mouth, restricting her from screaming. He had his other arm wrapped around her throat, Jane was trying to loosen his arm by moving as much as she could. But it hardly did anything, she was exhausted from how much she was trying to escape from the man. Suddenly everything had turned black, she just had a feeling that she was really going to die.

2 years later…..

The police were still on the lookout investigating the case of the disappearance of Jane. Eventually, the police gave up and suspected she was dead. Overtime rumors have gone around about how the rich family child had been kidnapped. People had always wondered whether the rumors were a fallacy or were they true? This ruined their reputation regarding popularity, this made the mother go crazy. Resulting in her going to a mental hospital, meanwhile, the father was overworking himself. He didn’t seem so affected by the news as he was never close to his daughter, as she was growing up. But he did always wonder what was the reason for his stress, and why did he start to work so much harder.

In the end, Jane never came back…..

10 English - 321 RIQ

Hi friends!

This is my first blog for this year's English class. Mrs. Truter had taught us a different way for blogging which will be used in our English classes. This new blogging system is called '321 RIQ'.

3   Recalls - (3 things I remember about the lesson)

2   Insights - (2 new things I learned in this lesson)

1   Question - (1 question about something I didn't understand/would like to know more about)

I will now use this method regarding my previous English lessons.

3   Recalls -

  • I recall us creating individual stories, which had to include these words -
    • Fallacy
    • Enigma
    • Disappearance
    • Suspicion
  • I recall the class needing to do a 200-word essay about the benefit and advantages of blogging.
  • I remember sharing with the teacher a sentence using the word disappearance.

2   Insights -

  • I had re-learned/remembered different nouns.
  • I learned about a prefix and a suffix.
  • I also learned about '321 RIQ'. - (extra)

1   Question -

  • What type of work will be doing further into english? regarding that would we be able to do something creative, that still benefits our English?

Wananga - My School Holiday Summary

Hello friends!

In this blog post, I will be summarising my holiday that may give you an idea of my personality or what I like/dislike.

At the beginning of my 2020 holiday
, it was my birthday which I had celebrated on the 13th of December but my birthday is on the 16th. I had all my friends over and a few family members, there were games and food. The decoration was really nice and my family, definitely put a lot of their effort into it. The food was amazing, the games were entertaining, we had lots of laughs and I just generally thought it was a great party.

But for my 'real' birthday we went on a road trip around the south island. We had gone to Marahau and also went on the Abel Tasman Coast Track. On the first day, we only went on a 30-minute walk. To the Tinline Bay and took photos with the single tree on the rock, on the way back. We ended up catching the small crabs, and I ended up slipping in the small stream, luckily it was a hot day. So the water didn't really bother me, I had lot's of fun, but the next day could've been considered hell.

The next day we had gone on the Abel Tasman Coast Track again but this time we were planning to go to the Cleopatra Pools. The walk was so long, tiring, exhausting, on top of that the weather was not complementary to the activity. It was boiling hot, since the whole family came along we had to alternate with carrying the baby. I was the one who ended up holding her the most, alternating with her on a sling, my shoulders, and carrying her on my hip.

We had to walk to Anchorage first and that took about 4 hours which was about 12.4 km. We ended up giving up on going to the Cleopatra Pools. Because our legs had died on us we were so tired, and our problem had come up. We had no idea how to get back, we were so exhausted we just couldn't walk back, we ended up just laying on the grass we even took a nap, we had nothing better to do. So why not swim in the ocean and that what we did, it was so hot so why not, but we couldn't stay there forever. Although there was a hut, we couldn't find any of the staff which was frustrating. If I could say so myself we were extremely lucky like so lucky, we asked one of the water taxi drivers if we could possibly fit in. Usually, you had to book a spot but the lady was kind enough o offer us a spot. Just on the last boat, that's I'm saying we were extremely lucky, and I was so happy that we didn't need to walk back.

In my family, we frequently go on hikes and we definitely enjoy it a lot so we are usually used to the exhaustion. I think the longest hike we've been was at Mt. Somner which was about 12 hours back and forth. I think that was my favorite, the water was apparently clean enough to drink, it was so beautiful.

After those special events, I just did what you would have usually done in the holidays. I slept, ate, and hung out with friends. I had spent $50 with friends in just a few hours. I mean what can I say I've even spent $300 on just clothes in one day. I guess you could say I save up to spend, I don't know how but that's what I do.

That was the rest of my holidays nothing else special happened, but I definitely found my holiday enjoyable and entertaining.
